Gender and Identity
Recently in 1/2 Crawford we have been learning about the importance of students being able to identify and describe their own personal interests, skills and achievements. We learned that children become aware of their gender at an early age and start to associate with certain language and norms that they learn from observing the world around them.
During our learning we discussed how important and critical it is early on in our school years to learn to feel comfortable challenging stereotypes and realising their likes, interests and dislikes don’t have to be limited to their gender.
SWPBS
It has been wonderful seeing so many students achieving their Bronze (25 Stickers) and Silver (50 stickers) awards so far this term. These students receive their awards at our fortnightly assembly and we have been so proud seeing students from all year levels demonstrating our School Values at school and receiving so many stickers. It is very rewarding seeing our SWPBS system helping so many amazing students ‘Cashing in’ their Gugu Stickers for a reward.
Attached below are some pictures of students cashing in 50 stickers and choosing 3 friends to do some cooking at school, last week!
Students are also contributing to the ‘whole school reward’ by earning a certain number of stickers in class, which contributes to a strip being removed on our ‘Whole School’ display. Hopefully lots of strips continue to be removed and we will all be excitedly awaiting to see which level we and more importantly…which REWARD we can reach this term!
Today, theSRC met with our KESO Jess Egan and her son Jayden, to continue our collaboration in creating a Spring Gully Acknowledgement of Country.
We brainstormed what we loved, respected and admired about our environment. We then discussed how to use these ideas in our Acknowledgement.
We worked really hard and wrote some wonderful and meaningful ideas, and showed just how much respect we have for the Djaara People and their preservation of our environment, which will be reflected in the Acknowledgement.
We also discussed an update on 'Pear Square' and were shown first drafts of the plan. We gave our feedback, which will be passed on to our architect to make amendments.
Hats are Back!
As a proud SunSmart school, students will be asked to wear broad-brimmed hats or bucket hats outside from Monday 14th August. This is in line with the Cancer Council’s SunSmart recommendation that hats be worn from mid-August through to the end of April. Although it may not feel like hat weather, UV levels can still be damaging on cool, cloudy days. Students without an appropriate hat will be asked to use shaded areas or suitable areas protected from the sun.
Too much of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation can cause sunburn, skin and eye damage and skin cancer. UV damage accumulated during childhood and adolescence is associated with an increased risk of skin cancer later in life. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Australia. It is also one of the most preventable cancers. You can’t see or feel the sun’s UV. Whatever the weather, if the UV levels are three or more, it’s important to Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide!
Families are encouraged to access the daily local sun protection times via the SunSmart widget on the school’s website, free SunSmart app, sunsmart.com.au or bom.gov.au.
Hats may be purchased from our uniform supplier, Noone Imagewear.
Noone's hours are Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday 9:00am - 12:00pm.

Tessa, Tiahna and Luca, along with their junior Calisthenics team, took out aggregate winner of the Greater Valley Calisthenics competition in Shepparton.
They performed across 6 sections, taking out first place for March, Clubs and Free Exercise and receiving an honourable mention for Rods, Aesthetic and Revue.
Congratulations girls on a wonderful effort.
