Term 3, Week 6

Welcome to the Grade 5/6 News Page.

Reminders:

Week 7: - Book week is next Friday the 15th of August- Homework due – Reading log and Maths My Numeracy (30 minutes or 1 task completed).

Week 8: - Homework due – Reading log and Big Write Talk

Writing: In Writing, we have been working on procedurals. We have learnt about what is important when creating a procedure such as including action verbs. With Science Week this week, we wrote a procedure for building water rockets and had some fun exploring this experiment.

Maths: We have continued to learn about money – in particular budgeting. We have delved into what costs are involved when purchasing a pet dog, budgeting for an event/excursion and using spreadsheets to help us plan and keep track of costs. Over the next fortnight we will revisit Number and Algebra.

Reading: For the last fortnight, we have looked at Author’s decisions for using first, second or third person speak and practising to think deeply about a text and their themes or hidden messages. We have Chris Kennett visiting this week. It is great to have a well-known published author and illustrator come and spend time at our school and run some fun activities with all of our students.

Topic and STEAM: With Science week this week, we had a lot of fun exploring a range of experiments. Students worked in groups to make a water rocket and watch them blast across the lower oval.

Camp: Our Grade 6 students had a fabulous time at Anglesea. They displayed excellent behaviour and challenged themselves each day. Learning how to skateboard and exploring the beach, along with the bus trip home sing-a-long were highlights. Check out some photos below…
