Maths in the Classroom

Over the last couple of weeks, all classes have been learning about shape. In the Junior years, this involves sorting shapes by their characteristics, describing the features of 2D shapes and 3D objects as well as finding them in their environment.

Our Prep Students have really enjoyed using 2D shapes to make pictures as well as creating their own shape pictures and shape pizzas by drawing the shapes.

In Years Three and Four our students have focused on the geometric features of 2D shapes and 3D objects and have enjoyed making their own 3D objects out of toothpicks.

In Years Five and Six the focus moves to connecting 3D objects with their nets, recognising that there may be more than one net for each object. They have also been constructing prisms and pyramids.
