The stage-7 Junior School development is well under-way and to keep community informed, we decided to put a timeline of events that have occurred so far, and acknowledge the efforts of the staff involved.
The task team of the College submitted a Grant application to State Government by March 2020. The work included coordination with local council, Board, State Government, Professional Services providers and an audit of the current infrastructure. The process took 4 months and it included preparation of a design, feasibility study, current infrastructure audit and financial report. The task team consisted of Facilities staff, Finance Manager and it was led by our Business Manager, with oversight from the Principal.
State Government granted funding to the College in October 2020. The task team was busy again in preparation of the site to make way for the new building. Preparation included relocation of portables that housed more than 200 students by Term 1 2021.
The Facilities staff worked during the Christmas holidays to remove and relocate all classrooms with a hard deadline. All IT needs were well addressed by our ICT staff. The College ran seamlessly on 1 February 2021.
While preparation of the site was running at full scale, the task team was busy coordinating the design of the new development with Professional Service providers. This phase took 4 - 5 months and included engagement of all stakeholders which saw five (5) design revisions, meaningful corrections and more than a dozen meetings.
The design was completed by 31 March 2021.
The College tendered the development and after due diligence, chose seven (7) quality builders and received an overwhelming response with all tenderers submitting quality submissions. The submissions were received in mid April 2021. After due diligence, the College awarded the tender to E.J. Lyons based on the quality.
A contract was awarded with the view to take advantage of the July holidays and set up the site for construction. The builder responded within a week and set up the site in the first week of July. Our choice of builder has complemented our initial understanding of the professionalism that they possess.
We will maintain time lapse of the building to be uploaded to our Facebook page at regular intervals. Our Junior Years children are also busy preparing questionnaires regarding the progress of the development.
We would like to thank the State Government for their contribution for the much needed Junior School building where more than 400 children will occupy quality learning spaces to assist them in achieving academic excellence.
