School camps are a rarity nowadays, so I thought I would share with you some of my observations from the Year 4 Camp at Hamilton. We managed to squeeze this camp in between lockdowns.
- Kids will always be kids. One of camp’s highlights was Hamilton’s adventure play-ground.
- Watching sheep being shorn was a real eye-opener for some students.
- Even at 4:00am, it is vital to ensure no more than two boys venture into the toilets at a time. Otherwise you will find yourself expelling 10 plus boisterous boys from the very same amenities at 4:30am.
- Popping fidget pads sounds like the cracking of knuckles in the middle of the night.
- It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a Year 4 boy to want a shower.
- When a Year 4 lad loses something, always check his bag first. You are almost certain to find it, as this is the last place he will look.
- There was nothing better than watching senior students from our sister school in Hamilton help our kids get a taste of life on a farm.
