German

Ms Daniela Boehme

As has been tradition at Good News Lutheran College since 2015, students across Years 4 to 9 took part in the AGTV’s German Poetry Competition. Despite lockdowns and interruptions in learning routines, our students went through rigorous, in class and year level, competitions to qualify for the Regional Final. Three students per year level qualified this year.

Our students competed with Penleigh and Essendon Grammar and Overnewton Anglican Community College. Due to our current restrictions, the Regional Final was organised by the German Department of our College and held remotely. Students submitted their recital of a German poem and judges assessed their comprehension, pronunciation, intonation, and overall presentation. The standard of presentation throughout the final was very high and we are pleased to announce that our students scored 1st prizes in Years 4, 5, 6 and 7 and, in addition, many received 2nd and 3rd places.

Seven of our medal winners qualified for the State Final which was held on Saturday 28 August via Zoom. Imogen S, Tiahna S, Rashi T, Zeal P, Jeralyn T, Shreshta V and Anagha G spend many a recess and lunch time with their German teachers further improving on their recital. We do commend the hard work and dedication of these students.

The 165 State Finalists competed across Years 5 to 9. We are very proud to share that Imogen S won the Gold Medal in the Year 5 category and is now bearer of the Department of Education Shield. Jeralyn T came 6th in the Year 6 category and Anagha G was awarded 4th place.

We hope you share our pride and joy to see our students showcasing their skill and love for German. We invite you to view one of the poetry presentations. These highlight the outstanding quality of German knowledge and understanding our students display.

We look forward to our continued success and thank you for your ongoing support for GNLC’s German Language Program.

Danke
