We have lots of new books heading for the Library, ready for when we are back on site. 

I thought I would showcase a couple to give you a sneak peak of what’s coming to our shelves.

The Kissing Booth -  highly requested by students!

 

Written by Beth Reekles (who was just 15 years old at the time).  Then at just 17, Beth was offered a contract by Penguin who published the book in 2012.
This is a very cool YA romance novel aimed at the 13-17 year old audience and has since been portrayed into a popular Netflix movie.
 
The book is based around Elle Evans, who with her best friend decide to run a kissing booth at their school’s spring carnival.  Not knowing she would end up in the kissing booth or that the events would turn her life upside down...Will Elle head for heart break or get her happily ever after ?

 

Ready Player One - Sci-Fi

One for the Sci-Fi readers, Ready Player One was written by Ernest Cline, a number 1 New York Times best selling novelist from Texas USA.  His books have been published in over 50 countries and he is very popular in the Sci-Fi genre.  
 
This book has won many awards including the 'Alex Award' from the Young Adult Library Services Association in America.
 
The story, set in a dystopia in 2045 follows Wade Watts, an avid virtual reality game player.  Wade is on his search for an Easter egg in a worldwide VR game, which if found would have him inherit the game creators entire fortune.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is closing 17th September 2021

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is still open and Surf Coast Secondary College is excited to be participating. The PRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs).
  • a modern user-friendly interface.
  • rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved.
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review.

The challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 17 September 2021. Students from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books. All children who meet the challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
