Middle Poetry & Diary Extracts

Dear Diary,

A few weeks ago there was a knock on our front door and it was the postman, he was holding a big box. We assumed it was for dad because he is ALWAYS having hot wheels delivered. We looked at the parcel and it had “Sienna & Willow” on it so we grabbed a sharp knife and cut it open. We were so excited to see what was inside for us!

Inside there were 2 more smaller boxes. The boxes were white with bright gold dots all over. On the top there was a sticky note that said Sienna's pen pal box and on the other it said Willow’s pen pal box. We opened them up and inside there were pens, paper, lollies and gummies and a note explaining that our friend that lives in Wonthaggi wanted to be pen pals and of course we said YES!!!!!!! Our friend’s name is Tamsyn and she is 10 years old. She moved to Wonthaggi last year and we miss them a lot. We were SO excited that we wrote a letter straight away and decorated it with stickers that she gave us in the box. Then our Dad took us to the shop and we got gummies and stickers for her to decorate her letters back to us. We posted it all and when she received it she was so excited!

This put a smile on my face in lockdown because we felt loved and it was nice to make Tamsyn happy too.

Love Sienna

Jayden Briggs Diary Extract

Today I decided to do something kind for people in my street.

I rode my bike to the shops and bought lots of bags of lollies.  When I got home my mum and I made up little bags of chocolates.  There was Mars Bars, Milky Ways, Freddo Frogs and Milky Bars. Yum, Yum!

I wrote a note and attached it to the lolly bags. The note said, “Something to brighten your day in lock down.”

I went for a walk and put them in random letter boxes. It felt really good doing something nice. It made me smile lots!

A SIMILE POEM

“My Big Sister” by Mia M

She is like a ballerina, always moving around so graciously,

She is as fit as a fiddle, lifting me above her head and spinning me around,

She is like a shining star, always brightening up my day,

She is a s funny as a clown, always making me laugh,

She is a s neat as a pin, always making sure everything is where it needs to be,

She is as precious as gold and my favourite sister in the whole wide world.

My Big Sister!

A SIMILE POEM

“Rainbow” by Jackson B

Is as red as a bleeding from your nose

Is as orange as a juicy orange,

Is as yellow as a shining sun,

Is as green as a winter’s grass,

Is as blue as the sky on a beautiful day,

Is as violet as lavender field,

Rainbows are truly magnificent.

A COLOUR POEM

“Blue” by Sienna T

Blue looks like the sky,

Ocean waves crashing into the sand,

Flowers drifting from side to side in the wind,

A blue blanket to snuggle up to in winter,

Crunchy M&M’s in a warm soft cookie,

A cloud dancing in the sky,

Blue is calm.

A COLOUR POEM

“Red” by Jayden B

Red looks like a glowing sunset,

Red sounds like a crackling fire

Red smells like burning fire,

Red feels like sunburnt skin,

Red tastes like a flaming hot chilli,

Red………….MAD!

A COLOUR POEM

“Green” By Tarquin L

Green looks like gooey slime,

Green sounds like leaves rustling in the wind,

Green smells like a juicy pear,

Green feels like a soft and squishy ball,

Green tastes like a crunchy apple,

Green is proud.

A COLOUR POEM

“Red” by Remy S

Red looks hot like a fire

Red sounds like something crashing down,

Red smells like memories of birthday balloons,

Red feels like a really fluffy blanket,

Red tastes like raspberry jubes,

Red is the warmth of a sunny day.

DIAMANTE POEM

(One half is about one thing and it evolves into a different topic.)

By Harper M-G

Elephants

Big, strong,

Washing, walking, eating,

Elephants don’t bounce! Babies are fluffy,

Waddling, fishing, sliding,

Live in ice, bird,

Penguins
