ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT YOUR CHILD/REN?

Shared by one of our Student Support Officers – worth a watch!

Please find link to recording below of a webinar “Supporting children's mental health during the pandemic and beyond“ which was provided by the Royal Children’s Hospital, and recorded live on 25 Aug 2021. It is excellent and provided lots of great tips for families during this challenging time. Hosted by Dr Anthea Rhodes (Paediatrician) with special guests Dr Ric Haslam (Director, Mental Health), Dr Alice Morgan (Clinical Psychologist) and Prof Harriet Hiscock (Paediatrician).

The session answers many questions that have been sent in by worried parents. For example:

  • How will my child catch up socially and emotionally?
  • How will my child catch up academically?
  • How do I help my child who is unmotivated and refusing to engage in remote learning?
  • How do I get my teen off screens and doing some exercise?
  • How much should I worry about screen time?
  • How do I manage my child’s anxiety about catching COVID?
  • How do I manage the increased conflict in my household now that we are all home together?
  • …and many more

The Royal Children’s Hospital also has some great Royal Children’s Hospital Kid’s Health Podcasts including Children and Anxiety and Children and Vaccines.

FILLING PEOPLE’S BUCKETS

How awesome to see Vaha and Ilai on the TODAY show last Friday morning. Vaha nominated Zumba Instructor Josie for the Random Acts of Kindness segment on the TODAY Show and she was selected! Josie was presented with a $15,000 cheque today on the show (after a few hiccups) for the AMAZING job she has done bringing laughter and fun to so many people through her Zumba classes online. What an awesome lady and an absolute character. It just happened that we had booked Josie for Friday (through Vaha’s recommendation) for a Zumba session for our school! How wonderful to see so many of our families, babies and pets included, join in on our Zumba class online! This is a perfect example of how doing something wonderful for someone else fills your own bucket! We hope you enjoyed the online Zumba class.

Pink day

Thank you so much to everyone who dressed up for Pink Day at SPS to support Somerville Junior Football Club Pink Day Fundraiser. Some of our seniors were going to present a cheque to the club at the Pink Day event but unfortunately didn’t get to do it. We raised $758.25 for a fantastic cause which was awesome so a MAMMOTH THANK YOU to our SPS community for getting involved. We will do it all again next year💙💛💙

 MISS YOU ALL

I hope you all have a wonderful break – get off screens and enjoy being outdoors. Hopefully restrictions ease and we get to catch up with loved ones and friends in some way over the holidays. I will be wasting plenty of time playing with my cheeky puppy which I am so looking forward to. Our school is not the same without you wonderful lot here – I have missed you all so much and can’t wait to see you back on site, hopefully sooner rather than later! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
