Community Hub

Our Community Hub has been operating for just over a term.  Hema, our Hub leader, has made a great start as only one and a half weeks of that time has been out of lockdown. During this time Hema has made a lot of connections with families in our school and with the wider Doveton community.

There are many Hubs throughout Australia and a few in the wider Dandenong area. The Hubs receive government funding and the government hired Deloitte to undertake a Social Return on Investment (SROI) study of the National Community Hubs Program. Deloitte found that:

  • Hubs have a significant and measurable impact on quality of life, improving confidence, social participation, engagement and connections for hub participants which in turn leads to better life outcomes
  • Hubs provide a critical volunteer workforce, with one in three hub participants volunteering within the hub or school; they also directly help participants find employment
  • Hubs make schools more welcoming and culturally inclusive, and increase participation of families in school activities
  • Hubs improve access to health and support services
  • Hubs improve English language competency and in turn, participation in society and work

The Deloitte study demonstrates the worth of every single part of the hubs’ model – engagement, early childhood, English and employment, and shows that everyone – communities, school, families, children – benefits from having a Hub in the school.

Once we can get everyone back to school our Hub will be ready to start delivering services to our school community both online and in person.

Enrolments                                                                                                                         Enrolments for 2022 are still open. If you or anyone you know would like to enrol please contact the school office on 9791 1853 for an enrolment form. If you have been sent enrolment forms please return them to school as soon as possible. If your child is not returning to Holy Family next year, please let the school know as soon as possible.

Our 2022 preps have started their Transition program online. This will continue next term and we hope to be able to have some sessions with the preps and parents on site again when restrictions are lifted.

Our Patch

Our Patch set up day was on Monday and Our Patch are looking forward to starting their program for our Holy Family children in term 4.

Term 4

We are planning for term 4 at the moment. We have decided that when we select a date for any term 4 activities like Graduation and Prize Giving that we will not change the date should any COVID restrictions arise. All events will be planned so that we can have them on site or online. In the past changing dates in the hope our school community will be able to attend in person has created confusion and stopped parents being able to plan ahead. The only exception to this is Confirmation. Confirmation has been rescheduled for October 27 at 5pm, pending restrictions.

Thank you

I would like to thank our students, parents and staff for all their efforts this term with the education of our children. Having Home Learning for such a long time puts pressure on everyone whether at home or at school. Holy Family teachers have continued to refine how home learning is delivered to cater for the needs of the children.

I would hope that as the year comes to an end and the percentage of Victorians that are vaccinated gets to around that 80% mark we can start moving towards a more normal 2022.

Regards,

Steve Twomey.
