PE and Sport News

What a term 3 has been!

Walk/Run around Australia

We finished our journey with 3,330km walked/ran around Australia together which took us just short of Darwin. What a fantastic result, well done.  While the RHSport competition may have closed, I say we continue to finish off the term, so feel free to keep logging in your journeys, whether it be a walk, run, ride, scooter and see if we can return back to Melbourne before we finish the term.

Health and PE week

Thank you to everyone that joined us last week and enjoyed scavenger hunting, sharing their food selfies and joining in the staff challenges! It was so lovely to see all of you enjoying yourselves in the sunshine while staying active and making healthy choices.  Congratulations to the RED team that also picked up the bonus points that will go towards the House Sports Carnival next term.

Year 3 & 4 Learning

We have continued to learn about healthy eating throughout the school.  This week I wanted to share some of the creative work our year 3's and 4's have been engaging in.  The past few weeks we have discussed why we should be healthy, what does healthy eating look like and observing our own eating patterns and comparing them to the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating.  The students were asked to create a poster to convince their peers to make healthy choices and I thought I would share some with you.  Well done to everyone, you have all done so well during this unit.

We have also continued our target unit throughout remote learning, we have done some bowling, learnt some hockey skills (the things we used as hockey sticks were so creative) and finished off with creating our own golf putt holes.  Amazing what you can create even during these crazy times!  The students were so engaged with this task I wanted to share what they came up with here.  Well done year 3 & 4!

Sport News

So much is still up in the air depending on what happens next term, I will update you once I know more.

Thank you

Well done to everyone that has come to the PE classes and completed the tasks that were set! Sport and PE isn't the same online but you have continued to show up and connect, we have danced (the nut bush, sid shuffle, cha cha slide) done fitness bingo, basketball, Pilates, many HIIT and fitness classes, bowling, hockey, ultimate frisbee, and golf.  Year 5 & 6 have had the opportunity to deliver their own fitness classes which was so fabulous.  They have taught Karate, Contortion/flexibility training, basketball, cricket, netball and footy. A massive clap for those that went out of their comfort zones and taught these classes. In between all of that we have been learning lots about making healthy eating choices.  Through it all you have brought your smiles and enthusiasm to classes and continued to stay engaged, so thank you!

Have a happy and safe break.

Stay well, Stay active

AUSLAN Update

Our Auslan Olympics:

Several levels across the school have been engaged in the Auslan Olympics as part of their Remote Learning. One particular activity 'The Cookie Challenge' has created some amusement for students trialing the challenge and for staff who have enjoyed viewing videos of some of the hilarious attempts!

The challenge required students to move a cookie from their forehead to their mouth, using only the muscles in their face. These are the same muscles that are regularly used in facial expressions to change the meaning of Auslan signs! Many children contacted me to share their funny photos, videos and stories. The success rate was very varied, ranging from biscuits falling to the floor, to crumbs in hairlines, to a hole-in-one. Whatever the case, I hope fun was had by all and that the biscuits were delicious - even if the 2 second rule applied! It was also fabulous to hear that some families turned 'The Cookie Challenge' into a family game. If you haven't yet, join in the fun!
