From the Principal

Thank you everyone for a fantastic Term One of 2023!

The term has flown past, with our three-way conferences giving the students a chance to show their work and highlight their achievements as a final celebration. Thank you to all parents who have booked in and come to celebrate their child/ren's work. I understand that there has been some discussion about the communication in where the conferences were held - online or onsite. The original post by Glenn Tooth contained all of this information, but we realise that this dropped off the Compass feed after a week and it was not reiterated in any further posts. We will ensure that all posts stay up until after the event so that they can be easily referenced. We apologise for any confusion that this may have caused.

Thank you to everyone for your contributions to our school community, be it helping on camps, reading with students, helping in classrooms and the Grove and kitchen, donating to raffles, buying hot cross buns, and giving time to help with fundraising, school uniforms, and the like. We really appreciate all the help we have in supporting our students here at school.

In staffing news, we farewell MJ Ryan Bennett, who is leaving us due to personal reasons. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for all of her work here at OGPS.

Here at school, it has been a busy last two weeks of term. We had our Harmony Days, with performances and a dress-up celebration day. It was amazing to see so many students proudly wearing traditional costumes and clothing, highlighting their cultural heritage. We also had a crazy sock day, to raise money for Down Syndrome Australia, which highlighted just how creative a simple thing like socks can become. Our Year One students went to Como House, and our school student leaders attended the Halogen Student Leadership Conference. A smaller group of our student leaders also worked with House Spirit (linked to our House T-Shirts) to come up with some school-wide initiatives to further strengthen our house system; stay tuned for these in the coming terms. Yesterday, our student leaders attended the Legacy School ANZAC Day service at the Shrine.

Finally, I hope everyone has a restful break from the routine of school and has time with family and friends. We will see everyone back on Wednesday April 26 (remember, Monday April 24 is a curriculum day) for another fun-filled term.

Take care.
