Curriculum Matters
Level 2
This week, the Level 2 students enjoyed following our first procedure together.
It was a great success and we loved eating our delicious Anzac biscuits!
Level 3
On April 25th, we commemorate Anzac Day to honour and remember the bravery of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought in Gallipoli during World War I.
The Level 3 students were highly engaged in learning about the significance of this day. Students made ANZAC biscuits as part of this learning experience. They learnt that the biscuits are named after the ANZACs, who ate them during World War I as a source of nutrition and comfort.
Level 6
On Wednesday the 26th of April, all the year 6’s, teachers and parent helpers went on the bus to go to the thousand steps.
We chilled for about 30 mins and then we watched the Anzac ceremony. Soldiers marched with swords and stood straight for half an hour. A school’s choir sang songs about the war and Australia. All the schools walked their wreaths to the front where the statues of Australia and Papua New Guinea soldiers were.
The ceremony was sad at times, we heard stories of people getting shot in the spine and other people having to leave their families. After the ceremony we walked to the 1000 steps and then we went up them. Then we saw some statues and plaques about the Kokoda track. It was really cool walking the track, we got to see a lot of nature and we got to see what it was like for the soldiers. We got to the top and then we walked down a really steep hill.
We went back to the park. We had lunch and a play then we went to read some billboards about what happened back then. We had a class photo, then went back on the buses.
It was a great day; it was fun going up the stairs and down the steep hill.
It was fun leaning about the fuzzy wuzzy angels and all about what the soldiers went though.
