Visit to Nepean School

On Friday 22 April 2016, the first group from the Frankston High School sports leadership team visited the Nepean School. When we arrived we were just in time for recess! We all gathered in the yard ready to meet some of the students. Half of the group went to the senior side and half of us to the junior side.
We first played some interactive activities in the yard such as basketball or playing with the equipment in the sandpit with the students. After the bell went we headed to the hall for some exciting balloon football! This activity was with the senior students and was a new game that we were trialling. We were paired up with someone, introduced ourselves to each other and had a blast! The balloon footy was run by a lady from SCOPE who did a great job explaining to us all. The idea of this game was to keep the same concept of a football game but change it a bit so people with a disability could join in. The drills at the start got us all pumped for our first ever big game. As soon as the ball was thrown up in the middle everyone was ready to get in there. Well done to the 'no sash' team for winning, it was a tough one!
Thank you to our wonderful scorer Miss Edwards and our two very experienced goal umpires, Savannah Brennan and Mrs Tierney. Afterwards, we met with the Nepean School leadership team to organise a mini Olympics day that would be held at Nepean where everyone could be included. Overall this experience was one special day to remember. It is important that we think in our everyday lives that no matter who someone is, whatever their ability, that we include them and treat them fairly.
The other groups are yet to come and visit the Nepean School and I’m sure they can’t wait! We look forward to visiting the Nepean school again in a few weeks and share all our ideas for our mini Olympics day and collate them with the Nepean School’s.
Thank you for having us at your school. Thank you to Mrs Tierney, Miss Edwards and Savannah Brennan for organising it all and transporting us to the Nepean School.
