Around Our School

Poetry Workshop
On Friday 29 April, acclaimed Australian poet Chris Wallace Crabbe ran a workshop with Miss Costanzo’s Year 12 Literature class. The class is currently studying his ‘New and Selected poems’ in preparation for their end of year exam. It was a valuable opportunity to meet a published poet and discuss the ideas and construction elements of his poetry in person.

International Lunch
Last Wednesday 11 May, we celebrated this special day in our International lunchroom. It was celebrated by so many of our students and we all shared many pizzas which were enjoyed by both staff and students. Our program is always expanding to include students from different cultures and countries, and on that day we identified these countries that were represented: China, India, Japan, Iran, Iceland, Korea, Republic of South Korea, Italy, Germany, Fiji, Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Brazil.
Our school is inclusive of this program and all our students say what a wonderful experience it is for them while studying in our school.
PLEASE NOTE: In July we have more students arriving from overseas, both short and long term, so if any families are interested in becoming involved in this program, please contact me at the school for more details.

Life Skills Morning Tea
The newest international students prepared a sumptuous morning tea for their teachers and local friends on Tuesday 3 May. They worked extremely hard and were very proud of their efforts; making anzac biscuits, sausage rolls, lemon slice, pikelets and fruit scrolls. The experience of fitting in to a completely new environment is often overwhelming for them and activities like this are an attempt to make them feel more at home and welcomed to the Frankston High School environment. They have so much to offer to everyone and are very enthusiastic about attending our school.

Students Meet With Honourable Martin Foley
Pictured Above: Scarlett Noorman, Lilly Wells, Hon. Martin Foley and Lachlan Whitley
On Wednesday 11 May, two students from the Acceptance Alliance and Student Leadership Council, along with Ms Pearce and Mr Whitley, attended the launch of the Gayby Baby School Action Toolkit.
The Toolkit gives primary and high schools the resources to make their school a more inclusive place for students and their families. It focuses on making the representation of families more diverse and to include the various different combinations that could represent a family.
There were many amazing, inspirational speakers on the night, such as: the Victorian Minister for Equality, Martin Foley; the Victorian Commissioner for Gender and Sexuality, Rowena Allen; the CEO of Beyond Blue, Georgie Harman; and the makers of the Gayby Baby film, Maya Newell and Charlotte Mars.
We mingled with the team from Project Rockit, and got a sneaky photo with the Honourable Martin Foley. It was a very exciting and inspiring event to be able to attend.

Australian National Vaulting Championships
Some weeks ago, I travelled to Adelaide with my family and some members of my team Peninsula All Abilities Vaulting (PAAV) team to compete at the 20th Australian National Vaulting Championships 2016. Vaulting is a performance sport and is best described as gymnastics and dance on a horseback.
Vaulters perform compulsory and freestyle moves to music on a moving horse at either walk or canter. This is done individually, in pairs or in a squad. It was a great experience for me to meet vaulters from all over Australia. Some of them had travelled four days with their horses to participate in the Nationals. I made lots of new friends. The 4th place in Preliminary Individual Division 3 and 3rd place in Pas De Deux Walk (B) Division 2 were great results for me.
