UBS Finance Academy

Congratulations to Belinda Cracknell of Year 11 who has been selected to attend the UBS Finance Academy at Macquarie University in Sydney from 11 July to 15 July 2016.  Belinda was selected into this very prestigious program based on her excellent academic results, her interest in pursuing a career in finance/business and recommendations from the Business Studies Faculty and Year 11 Coordinators.  This will be an invaluable experience for Belinda as the academy has as its focus to provide leadership in finance education and for students to meet inspirational leaders and role models in this field.

SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY VICE CHANCELLOR'S EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

Congratulations to Jessie Martin and Jessica Bottomley both from our Class of 2015 who were recently presented and recognised at an awards ceremony at Swinburne University.  Both students received a $5000 (per annum) Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarship in recognition of their outstanding Year 12 results.  The awards ceremony was attended by our Careers practitioner, Mrs Walsh and was held on Wednesday 4 May.  We wish both students continued success as they embark on their university studies.

Debutante Ball

Congratulations to all who attended the Debutante Ball on Friday 13 May.  The Mayor of Frankston, Councillor James Dooley and his wife received our Debutantes on the night and complimented our students on their beautiful presentation and behaviour.

Our students were a credit to the school and their behaviour was exemplary.  It was wonderful to see so many parents, sisters, brothers, grandparents and friends dancing the night away with our Year 11 students.

Congratulations and thank you to Ms Fischer for the organisation of the Deb Ball.  Thank you also to the staff who supervised dance practice and assisted on the day/night for their contribution to the ball’s success.  A special thank you to Mrs D’Ambra and Mr Neratzoglou  who introduced the students on the night and assisted with the organisation.

I would like to thank the management and staff of the Brighton International for providing such a wonderful venue for our Debutante Ball.  For many of our students, the Debutante Ball is one of the highlights of their time at Frankston High School.

Exams

YEAR 11 MID YEAR EXAMS

All Year 11 studies will have a mid year exam during the period

Monday 6 June  - Friday 17 June.

The Senior School Coordinators and I would like to extend our best wishes to all Year 11 and Year 12 students for their upcoming mid-year examinations.

YEAR 12 MID YEAR EXAMS

Elevate Education through years of research have found that practice exams is the number one statistical difference between top performing and lower performing students.  Their research has shown there is a direct relationship between the number of practice papers attempted and student marks.

Year 12 mid year exams will occur from Monday 6 June – Friday 24 June.

These will occur in all Unit 3 and Unit 4 studies. Timetables have been distributed to students and sent home to parents.

These exams provide students with the opportunity to hone exam techniques and practices in order to maximise results.  Teachers can address areas of concern in student performance and exam technique.

VCAA GAT

The General Achievement Test (GAT)  will take place on

Tuesday 7 June (10.00 am – 1.15 pm)

Monash Scholars Program

Year 10 students who are interested in applying for the Monash Scholars Program should see me for further details.  Applications are based on students’ academic ability, leadership qualities and contribution to school and community life.

All applications must have a school endorsement.  The benefits of the Monash Scholars Program include:  enhanced learning, exploring career ambitions, defining personal aspirations, preparation for university life and building networks with

other high-achieving students.  Applications open on 20 May and close on 24 June.

Attendance Policy

I would like to remind parents and students of the attendance policy in the senior school.  Seven unexcused absences in a study and/or 15 absences in a study results in an N result for that study.  Students must ensure all absences are annotated by the coordinators or office staff on the green absence card in their diary.  Students must also ensure their green card is shown to all of their classroom teachers.  In order for the absence to be excused, parents/guardians must provide a note with a specific reason for the absence:  illness, funeral etc.
