Truancy / Attendance

Comprehensive educational research clearly indicates a strong correlation between high attendance rates at school and improved student connectedness, student wellbeing and academic achievement. Therefore, at CSC we have been refining our attendance processes to ensure we closely monitor student absenteeism and keep our families informed of this relevant information. Under our current system parents only receive notification when their child is absent during the first two sessions of the day, leaving the remainder of the school day unaccounted. Our plans, when finalised, aim to keep families more informed throughout the duration of the school day. Once our ‘attendance process’ has been refined it will be clearly communicated to all students and their families.

Building Update on Planning

As most of the local community would be aware we recently received $11.75 million in funding to complete the construction of our new buildings, which includes our fourth precinct, library and administration area. The specifics on which, have yet to be decided. A couple of weeks ago I meet with our Project Officer, Mike Movaffaghi (Victorian School Building Authority), to outline the building process. The initial phase will begin early next term, which involves the appointment of the architects. Significant staff consultation will occur during the design phase to ensure the buildings meet the needs of our students and community. Once we are provided with more specific dates and information on the overall process, we will distribute this to all families.

Semester 2 Subject Changes

We successfully started Semester Two classes on Monday 18th of June, which for many of our senior students was continuing with their already established timetable. We understand that as students move through secondary education their interests, aspirations and needs change, therefore we provide ample opportunity for individuals to make adjustments to their allotment. Students wishing to make subject variations must complete a ‘subject change form’ from the Office and return the completed and signed form to our Acting Assistant Principal, Judith McLean. Students have until Friday 29th of June to make the final changes to their timetable. After this date, only in extenuating circumstances will subject changes be permitted. Al modifications will require my approval when I resume the role of Assistant Principal at the beginning of term 3.

Bus Passes

While students are welcome to travel on a bus that isn’t their normal bus (or they don’t use the buses normally), they need to obtain a bus pass. Bus passes are managed at Reception (front office) and students need a written note from home before the pass can be given to your child. If you would like more information about this process, please don’t hesitate in contacting CSC on 03 5479 1111
