Student Wellbeing

Over 300 students travel to and from school on our contract buses each day. We would like to thank parents and carers for assisting us by following the conditions that they agreed to when signing their child to access the bus.

Unfortunately, we are receiving late notifications from parents requesting changes to their child’s travel arrangements that causes stress to those concerned, especially the child. Please see below some important facts about accessing our school buses.

Bus reminders:

•    Parents are to ensure that they are aware of the timetable and are there to meet the bus on time

•    Please contact the bus supervisor concerned directly if a morning pick up or afternoon drop off needs to be cancelled because of absence/illness etc.

•    Please contact the Student Transport Coordinator (Carmel Hunter) if the student’s travel arrangements are to be changed.

•    If you are changing your home address and your child needs to change buses, you will need to notify Carmel at least 7 days prior for this change to take place. All new arrangement will commence the following Monday

•    If you are thinking of moving address, it is very important that you make sure that your new address is in the designated transport zone. If the address is out of zone, your child cannot access the school bus. If you are unsure, please look at the school’s website http://www.concordsch.vic.edu.au/ there is an area under the Enrolment section – Bus Transport. Alternatively, you can call Carmel and she will assist you.

•    Students are only permitted to travel on one bus. Exceptions may be made on a term-by-term arrangement providing there is sufficient capacity on both buses.

This will help a great deal with the smooth running of the buses.

You can contact Carmel via compass or phone (9467 3972 press 1). You may leave a message at any time of the day.

Here are the phone numbers of the Bus Supervisors in case you have misplaced them.

Department of Education and Training Student Consultation

At the invitation of the Senior Policy Officer, Inclusive Education Reform Unit Department of Education and Training, three Concord School year 11/12 students were invited to the Victorian Deaf Education Institute  in St. Kilda to consult on the new Inclusive education policy for students with disabilities and additional needs.

Joseph, Matthew and Kulkiran gave their views on what inclusion means from their perspective. This information is now being used to inform the final policy statement and supporting resources for schools. The day comprised of activities and group discussion. All three students contributed to a short video on what inclusive education means to them. Once the videos have been produced, they will be published on the Department’s website.  A graphic artist was also present during the discussion to record students’ ideas and experiences into a poster.

Joseph, Matthew and Kulkiran expressed themselves thoughtfully and articulately and were a credit to Concord School. They each received a certificate of Appreciation signed by The Hon James Merlino, Deputy Premier and Minister of Education.

Playground Upgrade

The Banyule City Council is preparing to upgrade the playground on Loyola Reserve. Our year 9-12 students use this area at recess and lunch.

A representative from the council has been to Concord and met with the SRC.  Our students made a number of suggestions for improvements.

The council is also inviting the public to submit any ideas.
