The Brunsibald Prize

SEMESTER 1 2023

Rebecca Rowe

Teacher - Art

The biannual Brunsibald Portrait Competition returned for Semester One, 2023!

Once again, our Year 7 students, produced some brilliant portraits during their Term One Portraiture unit.

They began the unit by exploring different ways of using tone to create depth, such as hatching, stippling and blending. They further developed their skills by studying the proportions of the face and completing observational drawings of individual facial features.

Once the unit was complete, it was voting time! Our twenty-one finalists created quite a buzz when their portraits went on display in the F-block atrium. The portraits were chosen by their teachers, as their work demonstrated the highest level of skill in each class. Each finalist's unique style was celebrated as the student community studied each portrait and carefully cast their votes.
