Harmony Day

Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds.

It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

Casual Clothes Day and Bake Sale

The 2023 Student Representative Council (SRC) organised a Casual Clothes Day and Bake Sale to celebrate the official occasion of Harmony Day. Students and staff were encouraged to wear orange (for Harmony) or clothes that celebrate their individual cultural identity.  Everyone was invited to donate a gold coin for the event, while students and families also donated items for the Bake Sale run on the day.

The student body raised a total of $1087-00.   All funds raised were donated to the relief efforts for victims of the earthquake in Turkiye and Syria.

Harmony Day is celebrated annually on March 21, promoting diversity and acknowledging the history of discrimination and racial violence in Australia. It sheds light on the past injustices faced by people of colour, and seeks to eliminate discrimination through education and celebration of culture.

To mark the day, the Student Representative Council (SRC) promoted and ran a bake sale. Families were encouraged to donate to the sale by supplying food items representative of their culture. The sale was staged at lunchtime and staffed by the SRC students. Families had donated some incredible food including cupcakes, cannoli and Jewish Honey Cake.

Other activities on the day included fantastic jazz music provided by talented music students, and games run by our brilliant language teachers.  Students attended school in casual clothes and were encouraged to wear  a cultural/traditional outfit and/or something orange. Orange is the colour traditionally worn on Harmony Day, as it symbolises communication and meaningful conversations.
