Holy Week and Easter
The most important events that the Church celebrates are the death of Jesus on Good Friday and His rising from the dead on Easter Sunday. It was because of what Jesus did on these two days that we have new life. Jesus gave His whole life for us, even dying on a cross to show us the forgiveness of God and to bring us a new life free from sin. We prepare to celebrate the joy of Easter during the season of Lent.
The Scriptures tell us three days after they had watched Him die, Jesus appeared to His followers and talked, walked and ate food with them. Jesus had risen! Jesus really was alive again and this was good news for His disciples. The celebrations of Easter help us to wonder at the great mystery of the new life given to us by Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.
Holy Week Liturgies
During the last couple of weeks of this term, the students will be learning about Holy Week and how it is an important part of the Church’s teachings. Each year level will lead a liturgy on a different event of Holy Week to the rest of the school community. All Holy Week liturgies will be held in the Church and families are welcome to attend.
