School Crossing Rules

We have been informed of a few near misses in relation to students crossing the roads near our school. Unfortunately, the crossing on King Arthur Drive is not always attended

by a crossing supervisor. It is very important that we all take great care when driving around our school and crossing the road to ensure the safety of all community members.

I would also like to remind people in relation to the law regarding school crossings -

Road Safety Road Rules 2017, a driver must stop as near as practicable to, but before reaching, the stop line at a children’s crossing if a pedestrian is on or is entering the crossing. A driver approaching a children’s crossing must drive at a speed at which the driver can, if necessary, stop safely before the crossing. It is an offence to breach these rules. The Road Rules do not require a human school crossing supervisor to be present at the crossing for it to be a children’s school crossing for the purpose of the offence. It is sufficient for the children crossing flags to be erected, for the children’s crossing to be considered active.

I have also attached a parent information sheet that outlines the best ways to make sure children are safe when crossing.

NAPLAN

Families may have noted that NAPLAN is changing this year. Instead of the old 10 band system used previously, students will now receive one of 4 ratings for each test area.

The new ratings are:

Exceeding – A child has met the proficiency standard

Strong – A child has met the proficiency standard

Developing – A child has not met the proficiency standard

Needs additional support - A child has not met the proficiency standard

The new standards are designed to provide a clearer understanding of your child’s achievement levels. As is always the case at Camelot Rise Primary School, we use the information from NAPLAN and all of our school based assessments to inform planning and cater to the point of need of each of our students. The NAPLAN tests will provide information on our students’ strengths as well as what they need to focus on next. NAPLAN provides each student with a snapshot of their learning and this information is integrated with school based assessments to provide a rounded view of each child’s progress.

Make up sessions for those students who were absent last week have been held this week. We aim for all assessments to have been administered by Friday 24th March.

NAPLAN results will be sent home to families when the school receives the results.

Harmony Day

It has been wonderful to see so many of our students dressed up to support Harmony Day this year. We will continue the Harmony Day celebrations next term when our students participate in the Dance Incursions which were originally planned for this term but had to be postponed. If you have not already consented and paid for this incursion you can do so through Compass.

School photos

On Wednesday 22nd March we have our school photos being taken by Advanced Life. If you have not already booked your child’s photo, but wish to do so, you have until Tuesday 21st March to book in.

Sibling photos can also be booked through the portal: www.advancedlife.com.au and use the School Code: L1P 4E7 3TQ

Twilight Sports

Our annual Twilight Sports event is scheduled to take place next Thursday, 30th March at

Capital Reserve in Glen Waverley. Please arrive by 4:45pm ready for a 5pm start. Please bring along a picnic and blanket to enjoy this community event. There will be an ice-cream van and a coffee van onsite to provide some much needed refreshments. The event finishes at 7pm.

Students are encouraged top come dressed in their house colours to help get into the spirit of the occasion. House points will be awarded for all the events.

A reminder that the supervision of students is the responsibility of parents. Staff will be organising students into their groups and running each of the events.

End of Term

An early reminder that Term 1 ends on Thursday April 6th at 2:30pm.
