Visual Arts Focus

Term 4 is upon us and we are all together again! Yippee!!

What a delight to see everyone again, to hear laughter in the Art Studio and to feel the joy that only children discovering, exploring, and learning Art can bring!

Our Foundation Artists

…are touching, squishing and modelling clay, loving the tactile experience of this natural material. They are just so happy making “pet rocks” to adore.

They will continue to be involved in three-dimensional practice, constructing with a variety of materials.

Our Year 1&2 Artists

...are creating real and incredible creatures for their ‘Impossible Worlds’. These dynamic worlds were constructed with paper folding techniques in term two and were just waiting to be occupied! So with pipe cleaners and icy pole sticks, there emerged weird and wonderful creatures just looking for a home…

Again, three-dimensional structures will continue to be explored, using rolled up newspapers, straws and different types of construction resources.

Our Year 3&4 Artists

are still reflecting on M.C. Escher’s ’Hand with Reflecting Sphere’, which they started in term two.

To complete their replica, students traced their hand, arranged it with their sphere on their painted background and pasted it artistically. They even mounted it and added a name label!

Students will then discover the challenges of a wheeled structure, in either a vehicle or creature form. Small boxes, wooden wheels and a cardboard base will form the foundation for this design, with the one travelling the longest distance declared the champion!

Our Year 5&6 Artists

are continuing to bend, curve, twist and join wire to construct a creature within a prism. They are giving three-dimensional realism to M.C. Escher’s print ‘Star’. The sculpture will be mounted on a painted wooden block.

‘Parenthood’ will then follow as students give birth to their baby bear by cutting, stuffing and sewing up a special bear. They will design and make clothing /decorations for their new loved one!

As term four unfolds we will be gaining skills, knowledge and awareness of all aspects of three-dimensional art. What fun is in store for us as we build, shape, form, arrange, assemble, and construct. I cannot wait!
