Their Care Update

TheirCare St Kilda Park (Outside School Hours Care)

Welcome back to Term 4. The TheirCare team would love to start by saying how proud we are of how strong our families, teachers and students have been throughout the lockdown. From being incredibly gracious in accepting our COVID safe practices that the service has implemented to teaching your children how to be careful during this time, our team has found the support overwhelming. Coming into Term 4 TheirCare St Kilda Park is kicking off the term with a focus on programming built around creativity and student-centred learning through STEAM.

The first week back, we focused on the theme Welcome Back as a way to help students ease back into school after remote learning. Activities included building an in-service art gallery so that students artwork can be on display making their stamp on the service, we created teddy bears that could become supportive classmates, we made Welcome back presents for friends and gift bags to carry them in. Finally, we created goal boards to put our goals for the term on.

Building towards Book Week both week 2 and 3 were   built around the book week theme Creative Creatures, Wild Minds. During Week 2 students became creative creatures by creating pipe cleaner creatures, joining in Lego master’s challenges and creating Hama bead mobiles. The students requested wanting to take part in an escape room, so on Tuesday, the students had to break their way out of the TheirCare room by working together to solve riddles, find hidden puzzles pieces  and unlock a special safe to discover a way to escape. Week 3 inspired children's Wild Minds. The children loved decorating bowling pins as superheroes and villains and starting a mood garden which will have wooden signs dedicated to different emotions so that when students came in, they can plant how they were feeling.

Week 4 was book week, so the theme for the week was performance and me a theme requested by the students. Students were encouraged to explore who they are as performers and as an audience by drawing oil pastel film scenes, experimenting with permeant marker tie-dye, creating Claymation stop motion movies, programming robots to become dance partners and creating idea boards. The children are enjoying working with the robots, so further challenging activities will be built for future programming. Students are also really enjoying making their Stop Motion films showing great creative independence as they develop their stories.
