Oorala Chemistry and Biomedical Science Experience Day

On Wednesday, 11 November, eight ASC students headed over to UNE for a day in the science lab. The visit was organised by UNE's Lynda Lynch and the Oorala Aboriginal Centre to encourage ATSI students to consider STEM options in post-school pathways.

All students had a fantastic and educational day, making aspirin in the chemistry lab and extracting DNA from strawberries during the biomedical session.

The group also met with UNE's Chancellor, Mr James Harris, and Vice Chancellor Professor Brigid Heywood.

ASC's Aboriginal Education team extend a huge thanks to Lynda and the Oorala staff for organising such a successful day!

The event aimed to promote careers for women in science, discussed issues related to careers for women in STEM, and explored research currently being done by influential women in Australia and New Zealand in climate science.

Over 120 schools, universities and individuals across Australia and New Zealand simultaneously took part in the live event, with 22 Years 7 & 8 girls at ASC participating.
