Watercolour Your Life
Colour Your Life
The Art Department has seen some amazing and gifted artists come and go here at KSC. When I first began as the art teacher in May 2016, I was and even more so today, so enthusiastic to see every student reach their full artistic potential. I was privileged to get to know these talented students and have developed long term friendships as they have either moved onto to new subjects, life changing pathways, and those who have such a passion for the arts they have continued their journey with me through to this year and hopefully beyond.
As I nurture their skills and techniques and assist in every way possible to immerse them in a variety of art movements, art history, traditional and modern artworks, some found their love for the watercolour world by experimenting, practising and creating beautiful pieces of their own.
Watercolour painting is not as easy as it looks. There is precise skill involved with complete control of the fine watercolour brushes, mixing the perfect combination of water and paint. Colour blending, graded wash, flat wash, wet on wet, dry brush, scratching, masking, taping, sponging, lifting, splatter and dripping are just some of the many techniques used in water colour painting. When mastering the art of watercolour one must be willing to take risks and a leap of faith that no matter how it turns out you can try again and again until the final artwork becomes a living picture to enjoy by all.
The process of producing such fine art begins with inspiration. Find what your interests are and use them to convey a message of hope, love, beauty, nature, dreams, feelings and more. Being engaged in an art project whether it be for school or just at home, brings peace to the mind, soul and heart. It gives you distance from anything that might distract you from feeling positive and places you in a world of colour, light and vision for a brighter future.- Ms Schwabe, Studio Arts Teacher
