Kings & Queens

Kings and Queens is a wellbeing program that includes students from three State Schools in the Melton region: Kurunjang, Melton, and Staughton College. It aims to raise self-confidence and self-esteem in students as they form positive relationships with each other. The program has incorporated assistance from Chess Kids who supply a professional chess coach who teaches all students rules and strategies of chess.

The students are fully engaged in the program and are enjoying the challenges each week brings. Wellbeing staff are also involved in the program and are forming new, and strengthening existing relationship with their students. Students from the three schools are feeling more comfortable in asking for help and assistance from wellbeing staff members as well as making new connections with others from different schools. Chess teaches adolescents to staff focused on a task and challenges them to think several moves ahead. This improves cognitive development, mathematical skills and problem solving skills.

The program is run at Melton Youth Services once a week from 1.30-3pm.
