Spring brings hope

The season of spring is upon us.  We are seeing a little more sunshine and it is lighter in the morning with the birds chirping. The promise of warmer and longer days, on the back of winter, invites us all to hope.  The following prayer from the Brisbane Catholic Education Office,  speaks to us all of the hope that Jesus brings us and ways in which we can reflect and reinvigorate ourselves.

HOPE

God of hope

You lead us on life’s journey.

As we gather here in Your name,

Open our ears to hear Your voice.

Open our hands to Your work,

And open our hearts to Your Spirit.

Amen.

Faith Life

Professional Learning Team meeting (PLT's)

Last Thursday, each year level met with Amerall Blom from Catholic Education Melbourne Southern Region Office and myself to critique our Faith Life Units and the assessments we set for the students.  We revisited the Religious Education Curriculum and from the learning descriptors, identified what skills we wanted the children to develop.  From this we wrote "l can" statements which will form our Success Criteria for each lesson and support our learning Intentions. As we meet as year level groups this Tuesday after school to plan for Term 4, these "I can" statements will drive our Faith Life units.

From working with Amerall we are all striving to ask ourselves of each unit of work - What do we want the students to value in this unit? How will this value lead each student closer to being a faith-filled person?  What Catholic/Christian dimension can we authentically bring to each concept or unit? In this 'recontextualising' manner we are providing a 2019 Catholic education for our students at St Finbar's, firmly built upon the Catholic Traditions and scripture.

Year 5 Mass

Sunday 6th September 5:00 pm

The Year 5 students together with Mrs D'Rozario and Miss Liels have written a beautiful and meaningful Mass for this Sunday.  Their theme for Sunday is Justice and Peace for all.  We are very fortunate to work with Father Ian, who challenges us to prepare Masses with the students, for the students.  In this way the liturgy speaks to each child and their families as we gather with the parishioners to celebrate the Eucharist.

School Feast Day Mass &

End of Term Mass

Wednesday 18th September 9:15 am

You are all warmly invited to share Mass with us in the last week of term. Many of the children will be involved in this child-centred Mass. Together we will learn more about our patron saint St Finbar, and celebrate our history and the hard work of Term 3.  The Year 6 Social Justice Leaders; Claudia, Lucas, Luke and Tom will share our student-led new school prayer with the community at this Mass as well.

Mrs Susan Williams (Performing Arts Teacher), has been working with a few students to lead us all in to sharing live music and singing at Mass.

It would be lovely to see many of you there and please know that babies and toddlers (especially noisy vibrant ones) are important members of our St Finbar's family and warmly welcomed.
