Student Well-being

Year 5/6 Community

Focus: Stress Management

For the conclusion of our unit on Stress Management. Students delved into a range of relaxation experiences. Some of these included relaxation, mandala drawing, mindfulness and coloring in. Students then took part in a guided meditation, which took them on the Pegasus Journey.  This journey taught students to be transported to another world free of stress and worry, an imaginary place to gather their thoughts. After taking part in the meditation, students created their own Pegasus meditation journey. Here are some of the relaxing experiences created by the students.

Windy Adventure

Giang Khong 5/6S

This is the story of a ride on the wind. But first, find a comfortable space to sit. It can be a chair, or the floor. Lie down and relax. Let your body loose, close your eyes,  and calm down. Now, let’s start the story.

You’re lying down in the Forest Meadows, grass between your hands as the birds are chirping, and the breeze is slightly blowing your hair onto your face. Something is pushing you up. You slowly sit up and you are being lifted by the wind. You slowly start to ascend into the sky , little leaves are slowly spinning around you as the sky draws closer.

The wind lifts you up into the  clouds, letting your hands brush onto them, you finally reach high enough to see the purple sunset. You look in awe of the plum-colored sky. You slowly reach your hand out to feel the warmth of the sun. The sun is making you feel like you are having a heat stroke, but it’s all worth the pain.

The wind slowly brings you closer to the glowing star , you make sure to cover your hand over your eyes to cover from the glare. After a little while, you can feel the wind slowing down, you open your eyes to see a small island  full of illuminating stars, prancing around, as you look in amazement. A little star starts to approach you and gives you a wreath like crown of little lights, you bend down to put it over your head, and brings you to dance with the other stars.

After a little while, you go and sit back on the swirling wind as the island fades into the sun. You head back to the Forest Meadows and you slowly descend off onto the grass, you look at the wind with a smile, as it flies away, you open up your eyes, and you’re back home.

Now , open your eyes, and quietly sit up.

The Bubble Journey

 Vivian Nelson Durate Ramos 5/6S

I'm going to take you on a journey . lay down or sit down around your room. And shut your eyes.

Make sure you feel relaxed and comfortable.

This journey begins with a bubble, imagine your inside the bubble, you lay down and you start to levitate.

You start to realise that it's getting darker and darker and darker but when you look down it is still light.

A few minutes pass and you realise you're above the clouds, there is no noise , nothing except darkness , then you see planets far ahead, and stars in the distance.

You start to slowly come down in your bubble, the darkness disappears, you’re below the clouds, you see a bird , sitting on top of your bubble.

You finally reach the ground, you step out of the bubble and lay on the grass.

You can open your eyes now, if you are laying down, sit up slowly, take a deep breath, and feel relaxed.

Moving into our new unit on Empathy, students explored the terms “Kindness and Respect.” Students considered the different actions and words and the domains we would expect to see them being used and demonstrated. As we narrowed our focus, students focused closely on the classroom and online.

Then, students created a creative way to show their knowledge of kindness and respect. Here is an example of Kingston’s awesome poem!

Sam Being Nice

Kingston Caguioa 5/6S

There once was a man named Sam,

He liked sandwiches with ham.

He was a normal person who was kind,

He thought with his heart, not mind.

Sam saw someone getting bullied,

He knew it was Zac from the hoodie

And he stood up for the person,

Because he knew in time it would worsen.

Luckily an adult came looking to stay,

And really saved the day!

People called Sam a hero,

 With the last name Castillo!
