Guess Who's  Getting Married?

On Saturday Miss Chantel Borg (Year 1/2B) and her partner, Aaron will be joined together in Holy Matrimony on what will be a day of love, laughter and joy.  We congratulate them both and hope their wedding day will be filled with special memories they can treasure forever.

Sporting Champs!

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 Boys and Girls Basketball Teams who both played off in The Footscray District Summer Sport Grand Finals this morning.

Our Boys' team was crowned Premiers in defeating St Johns 26-24 in a nail-biting finish and our Girls' team, while beaten by a stronger/taller team, fought the game out valiantly, holding their opponents to just 4 points in the second half.

Congratulations to all our children for the manner they played the entire competition!

Year 6 Graduation

Last night our Year 6s celebrated their Graduation Night in a sea of glamour and glitz as children received mocktails upon arrival before entering on the red carpet.

It was a beautiful night as children mingled with friends, indulged in a 2-course feast and posed for numerous photo opportunities.

Children were presented with 'Brownlow' awards and were even treated to a special guest performance from Mike and Maze on their 2022 Grad Tour.

Special thanks to our Graduation Committee for their organisation, setting up our hall spectacularly in theme and service of food. Thank you to all families who supplied the scrumptious food, to Miss Poropat and Miss Loizou for their creativity in planning and scripting the night and to Miss Debbie for putting together the video montage for all to enjoy.

Step-Up Day

Next Tuesday between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm will be our annual Step-Up Day. This will be the second of our whole school transition sessions building upon last week's experience where our children were able to experience a 'snap-shot' of life in their 2023 community.

On our Step-Up Day children will get to meet their teacher for 2023 and work alongside children who will be in their community next year.

Naturally, the day will be filled with lots of excitement and some disappointment as the children find out the exact groupings. This is all to be expected yet the beauty of the set up and design of our learning spaces is that children are never far from their closest friends and there is always a familiar face at hand to ease any anxiety that may arise when dealing with change.

We ask families to bear in mind that the organisation of class groupings takes an enormous amount of time and is almost a 'science' as we take into account the social, emotional and learning needs of all children along with the advice of teachers and the particular circumstantial needs of families. It is never as simple as moving one child as this will always have a roll-on effect. Therefore it is unfair to others that any changes be made.

Staffing for 2023

This year it's taken a little longer than usual to finalize our staffing for next year as we have had to factor in a significant drop in funding (due to a drop in overall numbers) along with constraints in the new enterprise bargaining agreement to come into effect sometime next year. Add to that the teacher shortage across the nation, which has been widely reported by the media, it has been a little tricky.

Having said all that we plan to enter 2023 with a structure that will allow us to continue to provide the high standard of Catholic Education that we have become renowned for. We welcome back Mrs Victoria La Fauci and Mrs Brittney Wohling from maternity so our staffing structure  for 2023 will commence as follows:

Christmas Concert

It's Time to Sing!

Our Christmas concert is back and is scheduled for Tuesday 13th December.

Gates will open at 5:00 pm for families to set up

their picnic rug, join in some Christmas cheer and enjoy some time together before the formalities begin. Feel free to BYO a picnic dinner, or bring your own 'take-away'. Alternatively, our PFA will be running a sausage sizzle for you to enjoy.

In consideration to all, we ask that families sitting on deck chairs and the like set up toward the back or around the perimeter.

Formalities will commence at 6:00 pm with our Christmas concert: It's Time to Sing! which seems a fitting title since it's been a few years since we have been able to conduct such an event.

Our concert will showcase the skills our children have acquired throughout our Term 4 Dance Program so 'be there or be square!'

After our concert, we will draw the winners of our Christmas Raffle (tickets will go on sale next week). And you never know... there might even be a visit from a man in red!

We hope this proves a wonderful opportunity to finish off the year on a high.

Reports and Portfolios

On Monday your child will receive their completed Student Portfolio which contains four terms of work samples and publications along with the final Student Report.

Please take the time at some stage during the hecticness of the next few days to celebrate with your child their achievements across the year. The Portfolios are now your keepsake so that hopefully you can build up a picture of your child's success over years to come.

Thank You

As the year draws to a close, and with this being the final Newsletter for the year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been part of the life of Corpus Christi in 2022:

  • To Father John, for his leadership of the parish community of which the school forms an important part.
  • To my school Leadership Team of Jane Wilkinson, Deborah Courtney, Nives Childs and Lauren Borg who epitomize what it is 'to put the child at the heart of all everything we do.'  Their specialised support to our students,  staff, and families is truly appreciated.
  • To our wonderful staff, whose efforts often go unrewarded.  I am grateful to all of them for their dedicated work and proud of their achievements as they continue to learn and grow in their profession.
  • To all parents, for the efforts you continue to make in supporting our school through classroom assistance, attendance at school/parish functions, raffles, meetings, and fundraising activities. Thank you for all you do for your children as parents and as first educators of your children.
  • To the many parents (and grandparents) who assisted with events across the year.
  • To Danielle Taske for co-ordinating Book Club throughout the year which our children eagerly await each term.
  • To our School Council representatives: Goran Koltovski, Belinda Miller and Miriam Nicholls. Thank you for your insights and  unwavering support of the school
  • To our PFA office bearers: AJ and Dwayne Deprez, Mel Daglish and Nathalie Angelone, and all general members of our PFA for bringing our community together through the many events offered and supported.
  • To all the children of Corpus Christi. Thank you for your hard work, your support for your peers and the cheerful way in which you have joined in school life.
  • To our Graduating Year Six children. Thank you for your leadership, for being the role models that you are, for your love and support of the younger students, and the way you regularly volunteer to do all those extra jobs.

And finally, thank you to everyone in our beautiful community for the support of our school. I would like to wish each and every one of you a very safe and happy holiday. May the Christmas season fill your home with joy, your heart with love and your life with laughter and good health.

God bless

Anthony Hyde
