A Message from Hannah & Keir

We would like to acknowledge and honour the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school stands. We pay our respects to all First Nations elders, past present and emerging.

2023 Teams

At BNWPS we understand how much influence a teacher has over the classroom learning community and remote learning has certainly shown us all how valuable their influence is on student learning! We are proud to have an excellent team of teachers across the school and know that our instructional models ensure consistent teaching and learning from room to room.

At BNWPS, we also highly value individuality and celebrate everything that makes each of us unique. This is true not only of our students, but also our staff. When employing staff, we consider a person’s professional skills and experience, as well as the person’s values and how they might bring something new to our community, or be a different kind of role model.

On the next page of the newsletter, we have shared our 2023 teaching teams. Teachers are still being allocated to individual classrooms. Classroom teacher allocations will be shared with some of the families of our students with additional needs this week. The whole school community will find out about class allocations and teachers on Monday 12/12 through Sentral.

We know that students can tend to favour the security of the known; hoping for a teacher they have already had and enjoyed. But we were all new and unknown to your children at some point. With each new year, your child will experience new classmates, new teachers, new curriculum and social demands. The variety of these experiences is so valuable and will add to the rich tapestry of your child’s life. The thoughtful and considered preparation for change and transition that students and teachers have engaged with through our Transition inquiry unit has been a huge step in the direction of positively experiencing all of these ‘new’ moments.

Step Up/Transition: Hello New Routines

Our transition and change focus for last week was ‘Hello new Routines’. Students worked in their 2023 cohorts to continue to get to know each other better, and to begin to think about which routines might be different as they move into their new year level - routines such as lining up in a different place, and having Art on a different day are all important changes to be able to predict and to be able to face courageously. 2022 class communities have been working hard at predicting and facing these changes, and one of our junior classes (Unit NF) has made a stop motion film full of drawings, slogans and predictions about what the changes may be and the strategies that the students have to face the known and the unknown challenges that 2023 might bring. The film, titled ‘Be Brave, Make Change’  can be seen here.

This week’s transition session will focus on “Hello new Teams’  - teachers who take the transition session will be (where possible) the 2023 teams. Students will not be in 2023 classes, and will not be with the teacher that they will have in 2023, but will get a chance to meet and get to know all of the teachers who will be working in the new team next year.

Gaga Schedule & Rules

Chances are that your child came home at some point last week talking about the long awaited return of the Gaga pit in the yard. We would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to the Buildings & Grounds crew and volunteers who have worked so hard to get the Gaga pit up and running again.

Because the Gaga Pit is so popular, our Senior School students have come up with a Gaga schedule as well as some rules for playing in the Gaga Pit. Please click on the links to view these with your child - it will help keep up with the Gaga highlights.
