PARENT-TEACHER-STUDENT CONFERENCES

Thank you to everyone that participated in the Parent-Teacher-Student Conference days. These opportunities for parents and carers to connect directly with teachers help provide families with useful insight of how their child is progressing.

The strong partnership between the school and parent/carer community will assist in supporting improvement in our students’ learning outcomes.

YEAR 10 ‘INFORMAL’

This is such a great event and I know the students will always remember the fun of this event. Seeing the students (and staff) dancing and enjoying themselves was fantastic! Thank you to the Year 10 Student Managers Krishna Fleming, Kate Jobson, Alistair McCooke and Head of the Senior School Kellie Felmingham, for their organisation of the ‘informal’.

I also thank the following staff who attended and the AV and tech support teams for making it all possible: Rebecca Johnson, Frank Russo, Delmar Zachest, Ashleigh Bell, Nick Gledhill, Phoebe Ponsford, Riley Price, Chris Pantelios, Rachel Walker, Caleb Goldwaser, Michael Birkett, Nicholas Xanthoudakis and Myles Kelemen.

Thank you also to the following students on the Informal Committee, who helped put together a very enjoyable event: Megan Bai, Shauna Enwright, Afroditi Ioannidou, Eric Jiang, Leon Koh, Johanna Kyri-Ovenden, Helios Li, Riana Mirkus, Katelyn Nguyen, Shauri Pedavalli and Amit Steinberg.

It’s events such as these that consolidate the cohort and deliver much needed celebration and fun. I look forward to celebrating again next year.

YEAR 7 CAMP

Well done to all the Year 7 students who participated in the Year 7 camp at Phillip Island. This camp provides many opportunities for students to build wonderful friendships, memories and to try new things. The sense of community and belonging amongst our new Year 7 students is always enhanced through this camp program.

Thank you to the Year 7 Student Managers Miss Andrieux, Miss Brown, Miss Johnstone and Mr Rood, who organised this wonderful experience.

YEAR 10 ART

During term one, our Sculpture students created a series of sculptures in diverse mediums based on the human form. Towards the end of the term, the students collaborated on an exciting installation that showcased their creativity and skills.

The inspiration behind this installation was renowned artist Antony Gormley, famous for his sculptures exploring the relationship between the human body and the space it occupies. The project began with the students researching Gormley's work and analysing what fascinated them about his sculptures. Working together as a team, they created a large-scale installation that was both challenging and exciting.

The students reflected on the project and shared that the installation had diverse meanings for each of them. Through this collaborative project, the students developed vital skills such as communication, cooperation, and problem-solving while creating a powerful and meaningful work of art.

Thank you to Rebecca Johnson for organizing this event.

VICTORIAN SCHOOLS SPORTS AWARDS

I had the pleasure of attending these awards hosted at the MCG celebrating James Kay’s (Year 11) efforts in volleyball.  James received a Blue Award for his outstanding talent and effort. He was awarded 'The Most Valuable Player' Award for multiple State Teams for both beach and indoor volleyball. James was recently selected for the Australian Under 19 team to play a competition in Thailand over the holidays.

Congratulations James! We wish you all the best for this upcoming event and the season ahead.

VICTORIAN STATE SCHOOLS SPECTACULAR

We are very proud of both Briana Portella (Year 11) and Vicky Bui (Year 8) who have been selected to take part in this year's State Schools Spectacular. Briana has been named as a principal dancer and Vicky will be working in the technical production area. This is such a great achievement, and we can't wait for the production!

This event will be held at the John Cain Arena in September and will be aired on television. We will update everyone on the details as they come to hand.

CENTRAL AUSTRALIA CAMP

Good luck to all the students and staff heading off on the Central Australia camp during the holidays. We look forward to hearing about your adventures and wish you a wonderful trip.

I would again like to express my sincere gratitude to the community for your strength, support and resilience during a very emotional end to term 1. I hope we can reflect and be proud of the way we supported each other.

I wish you a wonderful Easter break, and I look forward to returning next term feeling refreshed and ready to commence Term 2.
