HANDS-ON LEARNING: EXPLORING GEOMETRY WITH 3D PAPER SHAPES

Hey there! Let's talk about how we explored geometry with 3D paper shapes and had a blast doing it! Who says maths can't be fun?

We started by creating different 3D shapes using just paper. We folded, cut, and transformed our sheets of paper into rectangular prisms, cubes, triangular prisms, and even trapezoidal prisms! It was like origami, but for math geeks like us.

After creating our paper shapes, we then used our knowledge of geometry to calculate their Surface Area and Volume. We measured, calculated, and got our hands dirty with paper cuts and glue.

By doing these activities, we learned not just about shapes and sizes but also about problem-solving and critical thinking. We were able to see abstract concepts come to life and apply our math skills in a tangible way. Who knew math could be this exciting?

So, if you're ever feeling bored with geometry, grab some paper, fold, cut, and create! You'll be surprised how much fun you can have while learning.

After the activity, the students expressed their fondness for it, and we captured their sentiments in the form of a poem.

Fold, Cut, Learn: Adventures in 3D Geometry

In our geometry class,

we learned about shapes and sizes,

our minds turned to visualizing geometric forms.

But some students found it a struggle to transform.

To aid our learning, our teachers devised

A plan to help us visualize.

We made 3D shapes with paper and glue.

And our creativity was given its due

We folded, cut and glued with glee,

And created shapes we couldn't foresee,

Rectangular prisms, cubes and more,

Trapezoidal prisms, we even explored.

Then we used our maths skills to calculate,

The surface area and volume, oh it was so great,

We multiplied, added, and found the way,

To understand geometry in a fun display.

Hands-on learning was the key,

to unlock geometry's mystery

And with critical thinking skills at play

We mastered shapes in a tangible way.

Thank you, Ms Angelis and Ms Lelekakis,

For teaching us maths in such fun basis,

We'll remember these 3D shapes and their grace,

And use our knowledge in the future with great pace,

on earth and maybe in space
