YEAR 9 FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL VISIT

On Monday 20 March, all Year 9 French students went on a trip to the city to watch the film Belle et Sebastien Nouvelle Generation as part of the Alliance Francaise film festival.

We made it to the Kino Cinema on Lonsdale Street despite problematic train rides and watched the film. It was tres palpitant (very thrilling!) We met the protagonist Sebastien and his tight-knit family who faced the terrible yet tres beau villain, Gaston who is abusive to his dog. We laughed and gasped at the trials and tribulations in a fight for the intelligent white fluffy dog, Belle, all the while gaining new knowledge and exposure to the French rural lifestyle.

Afterwards, we hung around a bit in Collins Plaza, then once everyone was fed, we travelled back to East. Thank you, Madame Howard, Madame Lynd and Madame Antal, for organising this fun trip out!

VISIT FROM COLLEGE DE TUBAND

Our new sister school in Noumea, New Caledonia is planning a visit to our school by forty-five students from Thursday 7 September to Friday 15 September (end of Term 3). Later in the year, we will be putting out a call for families to host them; because they are Years 8 and 9 students, they will be based at East campus. However, they can still be hosted by families of students at Main campus.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage with overseas students and practise their French skills. In preparation, the focus of the Year 8 curriculum this term has been ‘Mon Quartier’ (My neighbourhood) and our Year 9s have been working on ‘Chez Moi’ (My home) and preparing to be able to welcome a visiting student in French.

TEACHING FRENCH AT MCKINNON SECONDARY

As part of my university degree at Monash, I was given the opportunity to conduct a three-week placement at McKinnon Secondary, developing the skills and experience required to become an effective teacher of the French language.

During my time as a student-teacher, I was lucky enough to work with Cédric Chamontin and engage with a wide range of students in a dynamic learning environment.

From the outset, I was impressed by the supportive and collaborative culture at McKinnon Secondary. I was warmly welcomed by the staff faculty and students, making it easier for me to assimilate into teaching life. Additionally, I was given the chance to observe and participate in a range of classroom activities, from working one-on-one with students to executing structured lessons.

I will miss teaching at McKinnon. I would like to thank everyone at McKinnon, in particular Cédric, for letting me into your classes to practise my pedagogical approaches to teaching French.

Merci et à bientôt,
