Learning Centre News...

We would Learning Centre One

And it's a wrap! It has been a pleasure watching the Preps learn and grow throughout the year. They have done such an amazing job and we cannot believe they will be going into Year 1 next year, it only feels like yesterday when we were watching them walk into the learning space for the first time. It’s almost Christmas and the kids are definitely feeling the Christmas spirit! The Elves are out and about in Learning Centre 1 and are sometimes up to no good.

In Literacy, we have been reading different books about Christmas from Santa Claus and cheeky elves to Nativity. The students also made different Christmas activities like making Christmas ornaments, Shrinky dinks, Christmas chains, and writing a letter to Santa.

In Maths, we continued learning about subtraction and did activities to learn about number fact families. We also had fun playing with Numicons and discovered different number combinations to make different numbers.

In Religion, we learnt about the story of Nativity and talked about the true meaning of Christmas. We made our own versions of the Nativity scene and retold the story of Nativity through a puppet show.

In Inquiry, we learnt about different games from the past. We had a chance to play different olden day games. We also talked about how Christmas was celebrated in the past and compared it to how Christmas is celebrated now.

We would like to say good luck and farewell to Hazel, who has been such a vital part of our Prep team. She has been here at OLSC for a number of years and will sadly be missed. But we wish her all the best for her future endeavours.

We would love to thank each and every one of the families for your continuous support that you have given us throughout the year, we would not have been able to accomplish what we have without you! We would especially like to thank our lovely parent helpers who have given their time to come on excursions and help out in the learning space. We have enjoyed getting to know the students and families and would like to wish everyone a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. Enjoy the school Holidays and we look forward to seeing you all in 2023!

Learning Centre Two

We would like to congratulate all of our 2022 Year 3 and 4 students on their hard work and persistence this year. It has been wonderful watching them work together, form new friendships and challenge themselves to try new things. We are very proud of all they have achieved and have truly enjoyed learning with them this year.

LITERACY

This week, we have been getting into the Christmas spirit in LC2. Students have read many festive stories and they have been following instructions to make Christmas crafts to decorate their homes with.

TABLOID SPORTS

Two weeks ago, the sun shone down on our school tabloid sports day and the students were full of enthusiasm and excitement. They competed in many games including sack races, bocce, egg and spoon races, and hurdles. Throughout the day, they were awarded house points for their achievements and for the sportsmanship they showed. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all.

INQUIRY

To finish their History Inquiry projects, the 3/4 students presented their learning to their classmates. Some were quite nervous about standing and talking in front of an audience but they all gave it a go and shared their slideshows.

The LC2 Team would like to wish all of our families a safe and joyous Christmas break. We hope you enjoy the opportunity to relax and spend quality time with loved ones. See you all in 2023.

Learning Centre Three

Time flies when you are having fun… What a great year!

A quick recap of the highlights… Science incursion from Term 1 was very messy, but so much fun! We walked to the wetlands to explore our natural environment. People from St Vinnies came to our school and we learned about how we can help others. We had an excursion to Werribee Mansion to see what it was like to live over 100 years ago!

Tabloid sports day was a success, sun, fun and a day to remember! Congratulations to 1/2 Green on winning the whole school tunnel ball challenge.

During Literacy, we explored information texts, wrote down facts we learned and drew a picture to match. We then completed our own fact book about an animal. As Christmas approached, we explored different Christmas stories.

In Math, we looked at numbers and placevalue to 100 and even 1000! We enjoyed completing Christmas math puzzles.

Through Inquiry, we were lucky enough to receive a kit from Melbourne Museum with lots of toys from the olden days which we were able to play with and explore.

In Religion, we learnt about Advent and explored what Hope, Faith, Joy, and Peace mean and how we can show them in our lives.

To end the term, we have been participating in lots of Christmas craft activities.

We would like to wish Krystin all the very best on her new journey as a Mum of twins. We can’t wait to meet them. What an exciting time ahead!

We would like to thank all the families for their support this year.  We would like to especially thank all the helpers, those that come into the centre when they could, helped on excursions and those that supported your child at home, we couldn't do what we do without your help and support. We have had a wonderful time with all the students and enjoyed watching them grow. Have a restful break and we look forward to seeing you in 2023.

Learning Centre Four

Year in Review!

By Aratrika and Shresht

Although no one can step back and make a new start, anyone can start from now and make a new ending. This year was truly a thrilling year for all of the school, they have learnt and shared so much from experience  with the big times they’ve all been through. 2022, is the year of the grade 5/6s enjoyment and experience of various things taking place at school after the recovery of the pandemic. Just like every other year, now it’s the time to reflect and show gratitude for the past and look up to the fresh future.

The students have enjoyed the period for the summer and winter gala, the day to show their interest in PE and compete with other schools in certain sports. Also OLSC should be proud that some teams even made it into the finals. The most important thing is that they all tried their best and had fun. Every specialist day has also been a big hit, teaching us to live our lives with whatever passion we aspire to follow and bring to the world. The year 5/6s visited China Town in the Melbourne city, where they learnt a lot in the Chinese Museum and experienced the mouth-watering chinese cuisine. At the start of Term 4, the grade 5/6s participated with so much curiosity and exhilaration in the Sovereign Hill camp. The camp outing taught them about the Australian gold rush history which left a big mark in Australia today. They truly relished their camp and shall always remember and cherish those times for the rest of their lives.

When these students think of it, there are so many things to remember which makes the year of 2022 VERY SPECIAL! They thank their teachers and staff who made learning a fun activity and encouraged them in every step to success. The staff that work at OLSC taught the students to show compassion to the world and to always be and try to be the best person they can be. Students are taught to take pride in how far they’ve come, have faith in how far they can go, but never forget to enjoy the journey. As this being the last year of primary school for the year 6s', they are so lucky to have something which makes saying goodbye so hard. They wait with so much anticipation for the amazing things which have been organised at the end of the year. We all thank and greatly appreciate everything this school has given us, and made this year one of the MOST memorable years of our lives!

Tabloid Sports Day

Year 5/6 students enjoyed the fun activities and games that were organised as part of the tabloid sports day.

Year 6 Adventure Park Fun Day

On Wednesday 14th December, the Year 6 students and the 5/6 team enjoyed a fun, if a little wet, windy and cold, day at Adventure Park to celebrate the end of primary school. Despite the weather, the students gave many of the water rides a good crack, as well as the variety of dry rides. Well done to all of the students for their excellent behaviour on this excursion.

Thank You

Finally, we would like to sat a big "Thank you!" to all of our LC4 students and families for a wonderful year of fun and learning! Thank you for all of your support throughout the year and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2023. The entire LC4 team wish you a very happy and holy Christmas and safe New Year.

Year 5/6 Team: Anna, Alexandra, Alison, Chelsea, Cheryl, Gillian, Hayley, John, Lisa and Scott.
