Year 5 and 6 students have been learning Chinese cuisine this term. They completed their unit of work with an exciting opportunity of hands-on cooking experience. Students learnt about three main cooking methods used in Chinese cuisine- 蒸(zhēng),炒(chǎo)and 煎(jiān). They did research about the dishes which were made using these methods and the relevant cooking devices. With the support of our skilled parent helpers, our Year 5 and 6 students had a safe and fun session of cooking Chinese foods, including Stir fried rice (chǎo fàn 炒 饭 ), Steamed roll (zhēng chūn juàn 蒸 春 卷 ) and 煎蛋饼(jiān dàn bǐng )。
A group of our Year 2 and 3 advanced students bravely took on the challenge of sitting in a Chinese Skill Examination held in Victoria University. The exam, Youth Chinese Test is set up by Chinese Mandarin Language Office, which gives out certificates to young Chinese learners around the world to prove their Chinese language skills. William, Tyron, Levi, Kadyn and Portia have spent their Mandarin lessons this year studying advanced Mandarin rigorously. Their listening and reading skills are well above their peers. Good luck to them all with their test.
