School Council Report

Mr Mark Alexander (on behalf of School Council)

School Review

On behalf of the School Council, I’d like to inform you of the School review Hampton Primary School recently completed. School reviews occur every four (4) years and they:

  1. Provide assurance of ongoing compliance with the minimum requirements for school registration; and
  2. Inform the development of the school's four (4) year School Strategic Plan (SSP).

We were also assessed for compliance earlier in the year and were deemed compliant with the minimum requirements for school registration. The school review process informed the development of the Strategic School Plan (SSP) which we have developed in draft form which now needs to be reviewed and approved by the Department of Education and Training (DET).

Process

The school was reviewed by a panel comprising the school leadership team, a school council representative, a DET representative, and external challenge partners. Jordan Nash, one of our esteemed School Council members gave up his valuable time over 3 days, reviewing numerous documents and sitting in panel sessions and contributed significant value to the process with his deep academic experience.

The review is tailored to meet the needs of individual schools and measures a school’s performance and trajectory over time. Using data and evidence, schools undertake a pre-review self-evaluation (PRSE) to form a collective view of current practice and areas for improvement.

It was a collaborative process including a session with the school parent community and numerous  panel discussions over three days. The process led the panel to develop a draft SSP through great reflection whilst securing buy-in from everyone involved from the school.

The external challenge partners stated we “have a wonderful school” and congratulated Josh and the Hampton Primary School team for the excellent work we are doing. We will share the School Strategic Plan once approved by the DET which will take the form of three strategic goals, and within each strategic goal there are key improvement strategies and objective targets.

From the review, many highlights were identified that are worth celebrating and sharing. The most consistently noted was our outstanding academic performance, as referenced by our NAPLAN results and the data set below. This performance has been sustained and improved upon throughout the 2018-22 review period. One example is our Grade 5 NAPLAN results in comparison to the local independent schools (2021 data which is the latest publicly available data).

The other major area that was celebrated was the school’s commitment to an holistic education through a very comprehensive extra-curricular program and implementation of evidence-based wellbeing approaches and supports. These two highlights are strongly connected and are no doubt mutually enabling.

School Council are pleased to be able to share such positive news with you to conclude the year!
