Assistant Principal's Report

Miss Carly Epskamp

Welcome to 2023

Welcome back to DPS for our very first newsletter of the year. The students have settled into their new classes beautifully and seem to be having a wonderful time. Congratulations to all of our students who started their learning journey with us last week especially the Prep students. I have already seen some of your great work down in our Junior Building. You are already learning so many new things and we are super proud of you! This week we have also had many Year Seven students who started Secondary School this week come back and visit the office and their DPS teachers. Some of these students are photographed above. We miss our past Level Six students, but we know they will be doing very well at their new schools.

Meet the Teachers WebEx

A reminder that tonight we will be conducting Meet the Teacher WebExes. These WebEx meetings will introduce the team of teachers and give parents an idea about the expectations and routines in each of the different year levels. These WebExes will run at staggered times between 3:45pm and 4:30pm TONIGHT. Please see Compass for further details.

Healthy Eating for Kids

We have been asked for some tips on making healthy lunchboxes for our students, so we have compiled a little list.

Did you know: Kids eat around a third of their daily food intake at school. Providing a nourishing lunchbox goes a long way in shaping students health. It also helps kids concentrate and perform better at school.

Here’s a few tips to help you along:

  • Pack a main meal item – like a sandwich, wrap, sushi or frittata
  • Add a fruit or vegetable snack – like a piece of fruit, veggie sticks, bit sized tomatoes, grapes or berries
  • Top up with another snack from a different food group – such as yoghurt, grainy crackers with cheese or plain popcorn
  • Remember a water bottle – to help kids stay well hydrated throughout the day. Avoid juice or any other sweetened drinks. DPS kids are sweet enough!

If you are available, please attend our Virtual Assembly on a Monday morning. The School Captains host these assemblies and it's a great way to connect and see what's happening for the week at DPS. We hope to see you online on Monday morning.

Please see policies our Statement of Values & School Philosophy.

Child safety and wellbeing at Doncaster Primary School information for families and the school community

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

Doncaster Primary School has reviewed and updated our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to view on your school’s website, Compass under the ‘School Documentation Tab’ or a hard copy from the school’s front office.

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please contact the office on 9848 1122.

Have a lovely week,

Carly Epskamp
