Message from the Principal Team

Principals' Update

We Have Almost Made It!

A huge thank you to everyone in our school community for your ongoing support during yet another challenging year.

Once again, our students have shown great resilience, independence and organisation during another year of unpredictability and changes we have navigated around this new COVID-safe environment. We have had staff and students in and out of school due to illness and COVID, and we are very proud of how resilient our students have been throughout this year.

Thank you to our amazing staff for their continued efforts in such a challenging space. The work of Teachers and Education Support Staff has become more complex as we navigate the new COVID normal and try very hard to ensure that those students who did not thrive during remote and flexible learning have been catered for to ensure that they are meeting the expected growth in their learning.

Thank you to our Parents and Carers for your ongoing support of the school and a huge thank you to School Council and our School Council President, Conrad Dudley Bateman. The members of School Council have been so supportive and have gone above and beyond the role of School Councillors to ensure that School Leadership has been supported during the course of the year.

Principal’s Awards

At Carlton North Primary School, we track and celebrate student learning growth from year to year in all key learning areas. A key improvement target across the school is to ensure that all students at CNPS make 12 months growth or more in each key learning area each and every year. The following students receiving Principal Awards for Semester Two have made more than 18 months growth in learning in one or more subjects this year. We are particularly proud of the number of Foundation students who have made a huge amount of growth in their learning this year. The Principal’s Awards will be presented at assembly tomorrow.

Whole School Transition and 2023 Schoolwide Teams

On Monday and Tuesday, our children participated in transition sessions for their 2023 classes. This is a very exciting time as we prepare for the next year of learning.

In 2023, we welcome back Millie Holden teaching Year 1/2, Carlye Sinclair (Atkins) teaching Year 3/4 and Mary D'Cruz as Education Support. Carlye and Olivia Devitre will be sharing a class in 2023 as Olivia moves into a Specialist role teaching The Arts 3 days per week. Kim Best and Isabella Mammoliti will be extending their days at CNPS. We also welcome Sarah Morgan into the role of Education Support.

We are saddened to share that Susie Taylor has accepted a teaching position at Essendon North PS, and Georgina Aquilina has accepted a teaching position at North Melbourne PS. We wish them both the best as they widen their teaching experience at new schools.

Wendy Eberhard will be taking long service leave at the start of 2023 and will then officially retire from teaching on 16 March. We wish Wendy all the best as she has plans to travel and relax with her husband Ross. We are happy to share that she plans to return to CNPS as a Casual Relief Teacher in the future. Wendy has taught at CNPS for 23 years and is irreplaceable as a valuable member of the CNPS Team.

Year 6 Graduation

Congratulations to our Year 6 students on graduating from Primary School. We are extremely proud of everything that you have achieved throughout your years at CNPS. You and the Year 5/6 teachers presented an amazing Graduation Ceremony last night. We were all brought to tears as your Foundation Buddies presented you with the Graduation Bear at the morning assembly.

We look forward to celebrating your future achievements with you as you move into Secondary school. Please don’t forget to come back and visit as we love hearing about your endeavours and successes.

2023 School Timetable

After careful consultation with the school community, we have made the decision to go ahead with the proposed school day model that sees lunch later in the day. All staff that provided feedback on the proposed models preferred this model and 69% of 71 families that responded to our survey indicated that this is the preferred model for the school day.

Model 1:

9.00am - 10:00 am: Session 1
10.00am - 11.00am: Session 2
11.00am - 11.30am: Recess
11.30am - 12.30pm: Session 3
12.30pm - 1.30pm:Session 4
1:30pm - 1.40pm:Lunch Eating Time
1.40pm -2.30pm:Lunch Time
2.30pm - 3:30 pm: Session 5

We will trial this model during Terms 1 and 2 and will closely monitor how our students are responding to this change particularly in terms of their learning stamina and consumption of brain food during the school day.

Parent Helper Morning Tea

This morning we conducted our annual Parent Helper Morning Tea. This is an opportunity to thank all our parents and carers who have assisted throughout the year. We value the support of our CNPS community and take advantage of any opportunity that we can to tap into the expertise of our parents and carers within the classroom, listening to students read, helping on excursions and sporting events or assisting with fundraising. Thank you for all of your support throughout the year!

Student Toilets

As we have monitored the use of the newly designated non-gender toilets in the Marnerlong Building, we have listened to feedback from the students about care and cleanliness and cultural consideration. Our teachers have worked closely with our students to develop strategies and communication on how to keep our toilets clean and how to behave respectfully whilst in the bathroom. We have also put in place alternate options for students who may not feel comfortable using non-gendered toilets for reasons such as cultural beliefs. Upon discussion with School Council, we have made the two individual toilets that were previously allocated as staff toilets to gendered toilets (one male and one female) available to any student who communicated that they do not feel comfortable using the other toilets across the school.

Term 4 Housekeeping

Please finalise outstanding event payments as soon as possible so the office can complete the end of year finance process.

Please check for any lost property, as it will be given to charity after the end of the school year.

Please return any outstanding library books.

A reminder that school finishes at 1.30 pm on Tuesday 20 December after an assembly.
