Principal's Report

February 2023

I am delighted to welcome our students and families back onto school grounds as we begin the 2023 school year.

This week has been full of moments of pride for our students. A highlight was joining with parents and community members to welcome our students through our totems at the front of the school in a special Welcome Ceremony.

During the ceremony our Year 12 students and School Leaders formed a guard of honour to welcome and acknowledge every student and staff member as an important part of our community.

I look forward to this becoming a regular tradition to start the school year, as well as a symbolic way to farewell our Year 12 students with a guard of honour as they leave the school through the totems on their final day as Melton Secondary College students.

A congratulations to our Year 7 students for completing their first full week as secondary school students and to our Year 12s for a successful Study Camp at Phillip Island.

A few housekeeping things from me:

I know car parking can be difficult at the best of times around drop off and pick up times. Families, please ensure that cars are always parked legally, including not waiting in 'No Standing' zones. Police have been active in the area this week and will book illegally parked cars.

Whilst we would love to offer families a space on school grounds for car parking and pick-up, we don't have this luxury. To ensure our students are safe, the staff car parks are gated so there is no traffic in these areas during the times students are moving in and out of the school. Please do not tailgate staff into the carpark to ensure a safe space for everyone.

School Council nominations will be advertised soon for our 2023 Council team. Council is a formal governing body that approves important decisions for our school. I would like to thank our councillors who's terms are ending for their contribution to the College: Syed Naqvi, Ambrose Mareng, Justin Rees, Priyanca Menon, Nikola Petrovski, Syeda Naqvi.

If you are interested in nominating for council and would like to talk more about the role, please touch base.

A final thank you to all parents and families who have connected with staff across the week. I look forward to your partnership across 2023. Feel free to call the school or email to connect with me directly at kathryn.sobey@education.vic.gov.au. Have a delightful week!
