JRC (Junior Resource Centre) News
Welcome.. We Are Now Located In The STEM Mezzanine!
The end of the year was a bit of a whirlwind, but we are now open and ready for students with a few slight changes.
Due to weight limits in the Mezzanine, we were unable to relocate our entire collection upstairs. Because of this, all of our popular books are in the Mezz, with most of the others in a storage room that we can access for Click and Collect. We also have our extensive eBook and audiobook collections on ePlatform available 24/7 via Compass.
Borrowing
We are very excited by the enthusiasm students are showing towards reading, both in reading classes and during breaks. All new students now have library accounts (Smartsuite & ePlatform). Please see the 2023 Student Library Guide for more information. (attached below)
Physical collection: Our collection is shelved by genre to assist with book selection. Students can borrow up to five books at a time, for a two-week duration. Automated overdue reminder emails are sent to students two days before and after their book is overdue, prompting them to return or renew. We do not charge overdue fees, but long overdue books (months) will incur a replacement fee.
eBook collection: ePlatform has a wide variety of popular ebooks and audiobooks that can be read from a laptop, tablet or phone. Access is from either the star menu on Compass or via Smartsuite. Students logon with their Compass details and can borrow two books at a time for two weeks, after which the book can be renewed or will return automatically.
Library Activities
Board Games Every lunchtime
Homework Club Tuesday after school
Chess Club Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes with Mr Bise in Room 84
Unfortunately capacity limits have impacted on the number of clubs we can host in the library.
WOW Wednesday
Our remote library service, Words on Wheels is back in the Presentation Space every Wednesday from 12.00–1.00pm with Ms Tonia Hast. You will find copies of VCE texts for borrowing, help with study skills and referencing or mindfulness activities. Ms Hast is also available in the JRC Friday lunchtimes. Three Ways Smartsuite Can Help Me Today…
- The Year 7s are starting the short story All Summer in a Day. Listen to the Audiobook here.
- The Year 8s are studying the short story Missing Persons. Listen to the Audiobook.
- World Book Online (Encyclopedia) is a great resource for researching assignments. This can be accessed from the Smartsuite homepage under Databases, or if you do a SmartSearch for the topic you can then click on the World Book Online tab to access articles.
