Senior School News

Welcome To Term 1 2023

The 2023 Senior School Team welcome back our Year 11 and 12 VCE and VCE Vocational Major students, parents/carers and staff.  It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as the Campus Principal for Year 11 and 12 in 2023.  My portfolio will also include overseeing Wellbeing and Inclusion.  This is my second year at Frankston High School and I continue to be incredibly impressed by our brilliant staff and students.

What a fantastic start to the school year we have had.  Highlights include Sammy J broadcasting the Breakfast ABC radio from the Senior Campus, the Year 12 Retreat to Rawson, the Year 12 Families Meet and Greet, the commencement of the new Year 11 Student Agency Workshops and Year 12 Voice Sessions. The Senior Campus is buzzing with positivity for what the year ahead has to offer.

Thank you to all senior VCE and VCE VM teachers, Educational Support staff and the Senior Leadership Team for their tremendous efforts and care in ensuring our wonderful students have a focused and productive staff to the school year.  I would like to congratulate students for the mature manner in which they have conducted themselves during the Early Commencement Program and in the first couple of weeks of 2023.  We have been impressed by the way students have demonstrated the school values of; Empathy, Persistence, Integrity, Respect, Optimism and Responsibility

Pathways Of Our CLASS OF 2022

Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program

The Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program is three-year academic enrichment program designed to support high achieving Victorian Year 11 and Year 12.   We congratulate our Year 11 student Alex Vandermeer who was the successful recipient.  Included below is an account of Alex’s induction into the program. Congratulations Alex, we look forward to hearing me about this incredibly opportunity.

"During the summer holidays I was invited to visit the University of Melbourne and attend a welcome event held at their Parkville Campus as a part of the Kwong Lee Dow young Scholars program hosted by the university.  I, along with 500 other students from around Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia, attended a welcome lecture as well as a study skills seminar, in order to help us prepare for the years ahead.  We were provided lunch during the day and also got time to explore the beautiful campus and wander around with our parents and all the other students.  The program also provides us with many revision materials for Units 3&4 subjects so we can achieve our best scores in all of our subjects.  I was able to meet new people throughout the day from a wide range of schools across Victoria and our bordering states and had a great time getting to know many of them." Alex Vandermeer, Year 11

IMPORTANT NOTICES

Year 11 Student Agency Workshops And Year 12 Student Voice Sessions

In 2022, our School Captains met with Ms Jessica Bambridge (Head of Connectedness) and Ms Carla Caminiti (Head of Year 12) to discuss ideas for revamping the Senior School iSupport Program.  Further feedback was then sought from all Year 11 and 12 students and the wider community, this led to the creation of Year 12 Voice and Year 11 Agency.  A summary of the programs is included below:

Year 12 Voice Sessions

Year 11 Agency Workshops

What?

The purpose of these sessions is to provide students with strategies, information, and support in small group settings to allow our students to flourish this year. Underpinning this, will be the positive and supportive relationship that Voice mentors will have with their groups.

Mentor teachers: Mr Andrew Batchelor, Ms Sue Simadri, Ms Kely Mitchell, Mr Isaac Bakker, Mrs Sarah Bahramis, Mrs Sharon Bourne, Mrs Andrea Carron, Mrs Jessica Bambridge, Ms Carla Caminiti, Ms Tiffany Greenhill and Ms Leanne Milne.

Students will connect with their mentor teacher and continue the themes explored on Year 12 Retreat including study skills, organisation, wellbeing, managing stress, careers, character strengths, GAT prep, reflecting on results and attendance and much more.

At the end of each term Year 12 students will have a ‘Leadership Gathering’ whereby ALL Year 12 students will come together to celebrate achievements throughout the term – facilitated by the captains.

What?

Our Agency workshops have been designed very closely with our current school captains.  The purpose of these workshops is to provide our Year 11 students with relevant and practical workshop style sessions, on key topics indicated by our student leaders as areas of importance.

Students will explore themes such as: character strengths, careers, study skills, health and wellbeing, life hacks and much more.  Students were surveyed at the beginning of the term to indicate which workshop they would like to participate in.

Agency teachers: Ms Carla Caminiti, Ms Kelly Mitchell, Mr Ryan Jones, Ms Leanne Milne, Ms Sarah Bahramis, Ms Birra-li Ward and Mr Isaac Bakker.

Approximately once a term Year 11 students will have a ‘Leadership Gathering’ whereby ALL Year 11s will come together to celebrate achievements throughout the term – largely facilitated by the captains.

When and how?

Each fortnight a small group (about 16) of Year 12 students, who are grouped together within their study blockings, will have a voice session with their voice mentor.

When and how?

Students will participate in an Agency workshop once a fortnight – Monday Period 6.  Workshop assignment will appear on their Compass.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Wellbeing Supports

Frankston High School believes that students can only reach their full educational potential when they are happy, healthy, and safe, and when there is a positive School culture to engage and support them in their learning.  Our school acknowledges that student wellbeing and student learning outcomes are inextricably linked.  Year Level Leaders can refer students to the Wellbeing Team for support with parental consent. Please contact the Year Level Leaders or the Wellbeing Team if you have any questions or would like your child referred.  Click here to view our Student Wellbeing Page.

Attendance

We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for one begin with students coming to school each day. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your teenager’s education.

Students develop good habits by going to school every day – habits necessary to succeed after school, whether in the workplace or in further study.

We have a minimum attendance expectation of 90% attendance for all students. We will acknowledge and celebrate students with 100% attendance at the end of each term by providing those students with a certificate and free lunch.

If your child is sick or absent from school, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence (or prior) using one of the following methods:

  • Online (preferred option): Submit Absence Note via Compass. See this guide for instructions.
  • Email:  Send an email to attendance email address, attaching supporting documentation (if required):
  • Telephone: Call the school on 9783 7955 and Press 1.

Notifying the school of your child's absence either prior to, or on the day they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibilities.

Please note that you do not need to also call or email the school after loading your own approval, except in the case of the following circumstances:

  1.  Extended holiday (more than 3 days).
  2.  You need to let us know that you child was in attendance after receiving a non-attendance email or text.

School Uniform Expectations - Senior School

Students must wear full school uniform each day.  The official uniform supplier for Frankston High School is PSW Uniforms. Students are only permitted to wear the school uniform with a Frankston High School school logo and the new school uniform items are listed on the following website.

https://www.psw.com.au/schools/frankston-high-school.html

Senior School Students are only permitted to wear sport uniform during the periods that they have a Sport class. For all other periods they must change back into their regular full school uniform.

On the rare occasion a student is not in full school uniform, they will need a note signed by a parent/carer explaining a legitimate reason for being out of uniform, and a date confirming when the uniform issue will be resolved. This note needs to be signed by the relevant Year Level Leaders and a Uniform Pass will be issued.

Chewing gum is banned and any students with chewing gum on school grounds will be issued with a consequence.

Students Arriving To School Late/Leaving Early

If a student is late to school or classes, they must sign in at the relevant Sub School Office with a parent/carer note (or attendance note entered prior on Compass).

If a student is leaving school earlier than their last scheduled class (due to an unavoidable appointment), they are required to sign out at the Compass kiosk in the relevant Sub School Office with a parent/carer note (or attendance note entered prior on Compass by the parent/carer).
