Welcome To Term 1 2023
Dear Parents/Carers and Students of Years 9 and 10
I hope this message finds you well and that you had a restful summer break. I am thrilled to start the new school year as your Campus Principal, and I am eager to get to know you all. As we begin the new academic year, I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome back to school to all our Year 9 and 10 students. It is an exciting time, filled with new opportunities, challenges, and experiences.
At Frankston High School, our vision is "together we become purposeful learners". This vision is at the heart of everything we do, and it drives our commitment to providing an inclusive and dynamic learning environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of our students.
In alignment with our vision, we believe that our values of empathy, integrity, optimism, persistence, respect, and responsibility play a crucial role in helping our students to become purposeful learners. These values guide our daily interactions and shape our school culture, creating a safe and supportive community where everyone can thrive.
We have a lot in store for you this year, with a variety of educational and extracurricular activities that are designed to challenge you academically, to help you grow as an individual, and to prepare you for your future endeavours.
In addition to the challenging and engaging academic curriculum, we will also be offering a range of exciting extracurricular activities, including sports, music, drama, and clubs. These activities provide a wonderful opportunity for you to explore your interests, develop new skills, and make lasting memories with your classmates. I encourage all our Year 9 and 10 students to take advantage of the many opportunities available to them this year and to make the most of their time at our school.
Finally, I would like to remind our students of our school motto, "Optima Semper: Best Always". This motto inspires us to strive for excellence in all that we do and to never settle for anything less than our best. I am confident that with hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude, our Year 9 and 10 students will achieve great success this year and beyond.
I am looking forward to a fantastic year filled with new experiences, personal growth, and academic excellence. Wishing you all the best for the new school year!
Ms Leah Hannas

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Wellbeing Supports
Frankston High School believes that students can only reach their full educational potential when they are happy, healthy, and safe, and when there is a positive School culture to engage and support them in their learning. Our school acknowledges that student wellbeing and student learning outcomes are inextricably linked. Year Level Leaders can refer students to the Wellbeing Team for support with parental consent. Please contact the Year Level Leaders or the Wellbeing Team if you have any questions or would like your child referred. Click here to view our Student Wellbeing Page.
Attendance
We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for one begin with students coming to school each day. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your teenager’s education.
Students develop good habits by going to school every day – habits necessary to succeed after school, whether in the workplace or in further study.
We have a minimum attendance expectation of 90% attendance for all students. We will acknowledge and celebrate students with 100% attendance at the end of each term by providing those students with a certificate and free lunch.
If your child is sick or absent from school, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence (or prior) using one of the following methods:
- Online (preferred option): Submit Absence Note via Compass. See this guide for instructions.
- Email: Send an email to attendance email address, attaching supporting documentation (if required):
- Telephone: Call the school on 9783 7955 and Press 1.
Notifying the school of your child's absence either prior to, or on the day they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibilities.
Please note that you do not need to also call or email the school after loading your own approval, except in the case of the following circumstances:
- Extended holiday (more than 3 days).
- You need to let us know that you child was in attendance after receiving a non-attendance email or text.
School Uniform Expectations - Middle School
Students must wear full school uniform each day. Students may wear the previous uniform (blue shirt/grey shorts) or the new uniform (white shirt/navy shorts) as we transition to the new uniform across the school. The official uniform supplier for Frankston High School is PSW Uniforms. Students are only permitted to wear the school uniform with a Frankston High School school logo and the new school uniform items are listed on the following website.
https://www.psw.com.au/schools/frankston-high-school.html
Middle School Students are only permitted to wear sport uniform during the periods that they have a Sport class. For all other periods they must change back into their regular full school uniform. On the rare occasion a student is not in full school uniform, they will need a note signed by a parent/carer explaining a legitimate reason for being out of uniform, and a date confirming when the uniform issue will be resolved. This note needs to be signed by the relevant Year Level Leaders and a Uniform Pass will be issued.
Chewing gum is banned and any students with chewing gum on school grounds will be issued with a consequence.
Students Arriving To School Late/Leaving Early
If a student is late to school or classes, they must sign in at the relevant Sub School Office with a parent/carer note (or attendance note entered prior on Compass).
If a student is leaving school earlier than their last scheduled class (due to an unavoidable appointment), they are required to sign out at the Compass kiosk in the relevant Sub School Office with a parent/carer note (or attendance note entered prior on Compass by the parent/carer).
