Library Report

The library has been embracing the festive season, with senior students decorating the tree in their area and the Senior Retail class creating a fantastic window display.

Reading is a gift we can indulge in and share with others at any time of year.  There is a great selection of books available on the library shelves and on our e-book platform for students to borrow over the holiday break. To access the e-book platform students go to https://henrykendah.eplatform.co/ and log in with their school username and password.

The digital and physical collection can be browsed through the Oliver platform in the student portal and e-books can also be borrowed via Oliver.  New titles were added to the e-book platform in November including Midnight, Bedlam and Seasons of War (Skulduggery 11, 12 and 13) by Derek Landy, Chasing a Rugby Dream: Kick Off by James Hook, Mind the Gap, Dash and Lily and The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily by Rachel Kohn, Obsidio by Amie Kaufman, The Camino Club by Kevin Craig and The Evil Queen and The Glass Queen by Gena Showalter.

Over the holiday break students are encouraged to participate in Reading Bingo.  Bingo cards can be collected from the library. Students read three books over the break to match up a line, horizontal, vertical or diagonal, on the card and return it to school week 1 next year. The cards will be placed in a draw and one lucky participant will win a book pack prize.

Starting December 14th, Miss Klein is undertaking a reading challenge, aiming to read 52 books in one year. Students are encouraged to come and recommended fiction titles they believe should be part of her reading journey. Suggestions of books not held in the library will be taken into consideration for purchasing in the new year.  Any student who would like to set their own year-long reading goal is welcome to participate.  Students can also begin reading for the 2021 Premier’s Reading Challenge.  This Challenge officially opens in March, however, books read now can be counted in the tally.  To find out more details or see the booklists please go to https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html

Miss Klein has been fortunate this term to be welcomed into Special Education classrooms during the HSC exam period. She was able to share some great stories with students such as The Old Woman Who Loved to Read, Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book and The Adventures of Beekle.  Students worked on books of their own, created origami book marks and had fun with making imaginary creatures through the Surrealist art game Exquisite Corpse.

The final puzzle of the year is underway in the Senior area. This has been out for only a few weeks and is already near completion. It has been great this term to be able to begin reintroducing some of our recreational activities for students. The library team look forward to a busy and bright 2021 with many activities being planned and wish all our students a safe and happy holiday break.
