Year 7 YAP Project-based Learning- A Sustainable Future

This term, Year 7 YAP have been working on a Sustainable Packaging Project. As part of this project they were tasked with identifying current packaging that is environmentally problematic and then coming up with their own solution.  Students had to research, design, and eventually produce a prototype of their chosen product.

Product such as bread tags made of recycled newspaper to beeswax shopping bags and lotion bars, the students produced a wonderful selection of sustainable products for the future!

They even presented their products to Principal Backhouse and Mrs James, both of whom were very impressed.

Well done Year 7!

On Tuesday evening  1 December 2020 our school captains took part in the first round of the Lions Youth of the Year competition, hosted by the Lions Club of Terrigal-Wamberal.

Imogen Street and Brandon Willmette were a credit to the school and both spoke well in the public speaking portion of the competition.  At the end of the evening Imogen was acknowledged for her public speaking ability and Brandon was selected to represent Terrigal-Wamberal Lions Club at the next level of the competition.

Congratulations to both Imogen and Brandon.

Agriculture

During the plant trial task students planted the seeds, harvested their produce and segregated it according to the size.  Students really enjoyed the task as it was engaging and they were able to monitor and study the growth of the plants from the seedlings to the produce. Student were happy to take their produce home. Students harvested carrots, parsley, coriander, spring onion, few tomatoes and broccoli.

Global Awareness

The Global Awareness Action Team would like to extend a huge THANK YOU! to everyone who has donated to the Shoebox Revolution. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our school community. The shoeboxes will be packed full of goodies and going out to people on the streets doing it tough this holiday season. A small way we can give back and brighten someone's day.
