Student Services

Student Services has been buzzing with activity this term as we are supporting students across all Year groups. We are also working closely with our incoming Year 7 students, their families and teachers to ensure the best supports are in place when they become part of our HKHS family in 2021.

Special Provisions

Ms Janelle Wilkinson has been working with students who are applying for Special Provisions for the 2021 HSC. Disability Provisions are practical arrangements designed to help students and provide a fair attempt to show what they know in an exam room. To apply for provisions, students must work with Ms Wilkinson and submit an online application to NESA with recent supporting evidence. If you have any questions, please contact Ms  Wilkinson.

Healthy Young Men

We are proud to be running the Healthy Young Men educational program this year. The program is delivered by Silas Pollard who has extensive experience in primary prevention education and mental health. Currently, we have fourteen Year 8 students participating within the program and they will be learning about self-care, emotional and logical brain, experiences of anxiety and the basics of eating, sleeping and exercising.

The Healthy Young Men program aims to improve self-confidence and self-esteem and skills the boys in positive decision making in anti-social situations. The boys will have the knowledge and skills to address mental health, communicate with peers and become a positive role model within their peer groups. We are very proud of their efforts and application in the program.

The Cooking Program

This term we are continuing the cooking program with our wonderful chaplain, Miss Mel Gould. The aim of the program is to build confidence and skills within our students and provide opportunities to make meaningful connections with their peers. The girls are thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to get creative in the kitchen and try out their masterpieces in a supporting and empowering environment. This term, the girls are creating acai bowls, mini pizzas, rice paper rolls, chicken and egg noodle soup, san choy bow, nachos, bacon and egg rolls and cookies.  The girls are doing a wonderful job and the mouth-watering aromas are envied by those who walk by.

White Ribbon Day Assembly

Our White Ribbon Day Assembly was a significant event this term. The assembly was led by our School Captains and supported by several of our male staff members who shared messages about respectful relationships and their commitment to creating a society where the fear of domestic or family violence is eradicated. Thank-you to Julia Kostalas and her Retail class who created an eye-catching window display outside the library to mark the occasion.

Christmas Hampers

Student Services have had the pleasure of issuing Christmas hampers to very grateful families across our school community this week. Student Services wish all our families a wonderful, safe festive season.
