P-TECH Program

IBM P-TECH Program

Wrap-Up

Congratulations to all Year 9 & 10 Stage 5 students who participated IBM P-TECH Program this year. It has been a year filled with opportunities for our students here at Henry Kendall High School, either for mentoring from local industry employees to our Virtual Speaker Series where we heard from several Newcastle University professors.

I would like to congratulate all students on their attendance of the program and enthusiasm!

What will 2021 look like? We will be again working with our IBM P-TECH Liaison Officer to ensure opportunities such as Industry Mentoring on professional skills occurs for our new Year 9 200hr iSTEM Class 2021 and our Year 10 200hr iSTEM class will have the opportunity to participate in the Virtual Speaker Program from Newcastle University and, into the second half of the year, participate in an excursion to IBM in Sydney.

IBM OPEN P-TECH Badges

PTECH Digital Badges involve Digital Coursework which includes videos, readings and classroom activities (some of which require registering on external sites).  IBM provide OPEN P-TECH Badges free of charge.

In 2021, Henry Kendall High School will be embedding the IBM OPEN P-TECH free Digital Badges across Stage 4, 5 and 6 curriculum.

With ever emerging and changing technologies; now more than ever it is important students keep up to date with digital learning and the professional skills required in the workplace.

There is a "recommended learning" display that provides collections or "channels" of activities curated by learning professionals.  Students can subscribe to these channels, which cover professional skills, career paths and learning concepts such as Design Thinking.

As student’s complete digital lessons, they have an option of pursuing digital badges.  These badges can be added to their social profiles (such as Linkedin) and  résumés.   This program provides a Student Progress Dashboard so the participant can monitor their progress as well as receive and submit new assignments.

Digital Badges will be delivered via the Year 7 and 8 Stage 4 Applied Learning faculty, Year 9 and 10 iSTEM classes, Year 9 Futures Learning by Ms Klein and Mrs Cortaville-Smith in Careers Education.

Badges available include: Cybersecurity, Data Science, Enterprise Thinking, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain and Working in a Digital World Professional Skills.

As NEW IBM P-TECH Digital Badges evolve and become available to our students, our staff P-TECH Team will investigate and implement them for our students at Henry Kendall High School, ensuring students are focused on developing Future Focused skills for the work place.

Until next year ... Merry Christmas from the staff P-TECH Team
