Junior School

Thank you to all of the parents who came along to support our students in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. It was an absolutely wonderful show with talent and joy abounding! We have some quite tired children and teachers in the Junior School this week, and no doubt that’s the case with parents too! Thank you again for your support. We know that getting students ready and to and from all those performances takes a lot of effort. It’s definitely appreciated.

In amongst the “Joseph” preparation last week, Mrs Spohr took six Year 5 children to Pymble Ladies College for the Kids Kindness Convention. This event is the result of children from PLC developing a passion for kindness and wanting to influence other children in this area. The students who were nominated from BMGS and went along all had a great time. They were inspired and challenged to consider the place of kindness in our schools. They worked with Year 5 students from other schools to think of plans – big and small – that would make a difference in the lives of others. Thank you to those students for their excellent behaviour and attitudes on the excursion – Lucas, Thomas H, Kane, Eva, Zoe and Abby, and to Mrs Spohr for the early start and giving these students this opportunity.

On Wednesday night this week, some Stage 2 and Stage 3 students, and their parents gathered in Coote Hall for the Public Speaking Showcase. Students chose to speak about a variety of topics, some of which were big and deep and important. Today’s children are becoming global thinkers and asking questions around important topics. Giving them the opportunity to inquire, research and present on these issues gives them a chance to explore their thoughts. Guests and teachers were so proud of all of the following students: Sy, Lucie, Matilda, Lilian, Poppy and Hugo from Stage 2, and James, Eva, Ruby, Thomas S, Angus J, Charlotte, Fox and Joshua from Stage 3.

This week we spent lots of time handing out ribbons and medals from the Athletics Carnival. Our students were so supportive of their peers who shine on the Athletics field! Our age champions were as follows:

  • 8 Year old girls – Frankie Harrison
  • 8 Year old boys – Henry Isbister
  • 9 Year old girls – Claire Rutherford
  • 9 Year old boys – Sebastian Nicholls
  • 10 Year old girls – Matilda Hewitt
  • 10 Year old boys – Tasman Harrison
  • 11 Year old girls – Clare Stewart and Rose Cottle
  • 11 Year old boys – Thomas Hyslop
  • 12 Year old girls – Elise Lowe
  • 12 Year old boys – Will Pierce
  • The winning house was Ziele/Pitt!

During the first week of the holidays many Students from Stage 3, and a handful from Stage 4 will be embarking on the “Vic Trip”. Many, many thanks to Mrs Lori Gerrard for her passion and organisation of the trip. The students going along, and the staff who are taking them, can’t wait for the fun and learning that will take place. Prayers will be appreciated for a safe and illness-free trip!

I sincerely hope that your holiday break will be restful and that you have time to relax and refresh as a family. I look forward to talking with you about the excellent things we have planned for the rest of the year, early in Term 3.

Basketball - 9 Term 2, Week 9

The BMGS Swish had a Bye on Monday. We look forward to seeing them back next week.

On Tuesday, 22nd June, the BMGS Stars had two very close games. For the first game they won 6-4 with Sebastian Nicholls, Claire Rutherford and Christian McHugh scoring for the team. It was wonderful to see some great passing to set up these points and to see such confident layups. We lost the second game 10-14. The opposition were really capable players with height being a big advantage for them. Sebastian Nicholls and Hugo Courtemanche scored during this game, thanks to the other players for their excellent defending.

Due to House Sport in the Senior School on Friday, there will be no basketball training on the last day of school; this was communicated via email to all concerned. For the first week of the school holidays, we will continue to represent BMGS at our games. Dillon Hunter will be coaching his team at 6:15pm on Monday, 27th June and he will also coach the BMGS Stars on Tuesday, 28th June as I will be away on the Victoria Trip.

Have a restful break and continue to practise your layups and shooting over the holidays.
