Year 9 Program

RAID - Respect, Achievement, Innovation, Diversity

Thank you to Victoria University Footscray campus for hosting our year 9s last RAID day where they learnt about tertiary study options. There were quite a few complications due to the busses replacing trains, but students did well to cope with the uncertainty, a valuable lesson in itself!

Here is an outline of term 3 for RAID:

Wed 13th July

In term 3 the first RAID day will in the first week back. We will be at school for visits from the Pat Cronin Foundation about ending the coward punch (https://patcroninfoundation.org.au/) and Fizzics Education for a science show (https://www.fizzicseducation.com.au/schools/secondary-science-incursions/tick-tick-boom-2/).

Students will need to bring their devices as we will also give them time to continue working on their RAID presentation (a slideshow of highlights from the program to show you at the end of the year) and we will also commence planning for 'My RAID Day', a day in term four where students will get to plan their own activities for RAID (as long as their plan is approved by teachers).

Students will also be allowed to head into Gisborne for lunch as long as they are in proper uniform.

Wed 27th July

Course advising - no classes for year 9s - more information to come.

Wed 10th August

MCG tour.

Tues 23th August (not a typo, see city stay below)

Vic market/ACMI/Yarra river/botanic gardens/shrine/NGV

Wed 24th August

Melbourne Zoo

RAID Overnight City Stay - Tues 23rd to Wed 24th August.

We have booked out the entire Hotel Claremont in South Yarra for one night. There are only 148 beds up for grabs, so the first 148 students to get permission (pending behaviour) will be allowed to stay overnight. I will send an email when permission goes live on Xuno early next term.

Other students may still attend the activities during each day, but not stay the night.

There will be an additional cost for those that stay overnight (I estimate about $120, not yet finalised) which will cover the cost of accommodation, breakfast, and a film at the Jam Factory on Chapel Street.

Thank you,

RAID Coordinator - Daniel Ralston
