Principals Report

- Sarah Rose, Principal

As we prepare to log off and take a well-earned break, it’s timely to reflect on the term we’ve had.

This term has not been without significant challenges as we have had to manage the pressure of staff and student absences as a result of illness.  I want to thank our school community – that being families, students and staff – for their resilience, understanding and teamwork as we’ve navigated through these interesting times.  We have not only managed to keep the school open and continue to deliver a quality education program but we’ve experienced a return to the activities we as a school community cherish and look forward to each year.

We commenced the term with a whole-school assembly commemorating ANZAC Day.  Seeing our entire school physically together in the one space to mark such an important occasion was very special indeed.

Our Year 9 students have continued their RAID program with a number of days out to the city and our Year 10 students were able to complete a week of formal work experience placements.

Our Year 11 students had a wonderful time learning their dances for their Presentational Ball which went ahead in early May and we’ve had numerous incursions and excursions at all year levels throughout the term.

Additionally, there has been significant sporting activity throughout this term which I know is something that has been sorely missed over the last 2 years by students and staff.  We’ve seen students participate in Cross Country, AFL, Basketball, Soccer, Netball and Badminton.

I’m delighted to announce the provisional appointment of Lauren Anglin, as our new Assistant Principal who will be overseeing our Senior School. As many of you know, Lauren is currently our Senior Curriculum and Programs Leader, so brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role. Congratulations Lauren!

I would also like to thank Richard Palmer, who has worked as our Acting Assistant Principal throughout a really tumultuous time as a College. Richard has worked tirelessly to support students and staff in this role, and I’m extremely appreciative of his work.

As we look ahead to Term 3, the calendar is packed with engaging and exciting activities for our students as well as moving into planning mode with our subject expo and course advising sessions scheduled to occur for those year levels where electives are applicable. I would encourage you all to look at the Term 3 calendar carefully, as there are several student free days in Term 3 for you to be aware of.

We will also commence the formal school review process – a requirement for all schools every 4 years.  There are a number of phases of this review process and families and students will have an opportunity to input to it.  More information about this process will be made available next term.

We will also continue our capital works project, as we look to finalise plans and confirm the timeline of works.

We have a few staff members leaving the College at the end of this term.  I would like to take this opportunity to wish them well:

  • Leo Liu and Stephen Bailey who are moving on to new opportunities
  • Georgia Gordon who is taking extended leave
  • Stacey Holmes who commences her parental leave ready to welcome a new addition to her family

I wish our school community a safe and restful mid-year break, and hope you all return in July energised for second semester.
